S&W Revo Rebound Slide Tool

I have done a fair amount of smithing on my S&W (or *&* as the case may be) revolvers. Nothing fancy. Just personal work ala Jerry Kuhnhausen's manual. In so doing I have come across a very useful and ingenious rebound slide removal and installation tool from gunsmithertools.com. It is the Triggersmith®. Although I have the Brownells tool, it can't compare to the design and ease of use of Joe Beary's design. Check out his site. It's a good one. I really should spring for one of those neat tools, but I have used a plain Philips screwdriver for years and it works fine.

Jim - If you're adept at using the screwdriver method it's fine. But if you want a precise little device that's especially good if your trying out a number of spring powers, it can't be beat. It just eliminates all that pressure on your fingers at the same time you're trying to remove or install the spring. One end is designed for removal and the other for installation.

I've used the Phillips, but prefer a 99 cents stubby handle Craftsmen screwdriver. I ground down one part of the blade such that the remainder slips right into the spring. Works like magic and cheaper than the Brownell.

Rebound Slide Tools - factory & homemade

Below is a Crescent 243-3 slotted screwdriver ground to appropriate shape for the job. The other is the standard S&W factory autopistol disassembly tool given to armorers. Apparently, S&W doesn't think that special tools are better then homemade ones. Especially for revolver disassembly it works just fine and this is the one that I made in class.
