Hi All
I just registered and hope this post is in the proper forum. I have a S&W, model 19 I think. Gun unloaded!!When the trigger is pulled with the hammer cocked, the trigger kicks forward as the hammer falls. I purchased the gun new a few years ago and have only fired about 100 rounds thru it. It has always had a fine trigger pull. It has a target trigger and hammer!. I have removed the sideplate and everything looks fine.
When reassembled the trigger works fine for about 10 actions then the trigger kick begins again.
any suggestions!

Outside of something dirty/worn/broken, some S&W revolvers have a trigger stop. It's possible that yours has one and it is loose/not adjusted properly. That could limit the trigger's travel enough that it does not completely clear the hammer/double action sear when firing in single action. The stop is a small piece of metal that sits in the frame and projects out inside the trigger guard behind the trigger. It is near the bottom side plate screw. It is held in the frame (and in adjustment) by a small screw under the side plate. (Well, after typing this, I happened to find a picture of one on another forum: link). A quick and easy check would be to adjust it as far back in to the frame as possible, tighten it down and see if the problem goes away.

The trigger stop is a possible problem area, but if that is not the trouble, and if no one messed with the hammer or trigger, check the strain screw in the front of the grip. If it is too loose, that can be the result.

+1 on a loose strain screw.

That is the most likely cause.

Model 19's don't have trigger stops as far as I know.
Least mine don't.

Thank you all. The trigger stop was the problem. I adjusred it as far back as possible and the gun works fine. I think that the stop set screw was not tightened enough and moved after a couple of hammer falls. Works good now. Thank you all.

S&W made changes to the trigger stop. The old guns had it set into a slot in the rear of the trigger guard then kept from moving by a screw. Later models have a pin inside the trigger rebound spring. If properly fitted, the latter system works OK but I have had to fit a number of them to get the same trigger stop feel as the old system. (P.S. It's a PITA, cut and try work.)

This is like the pin found inside N frame REBOUND springs?

I'd thought that the only guns that used that pin were the 'N' frames, and that the old trigger stop that extended into the trigger guard had simply been discontinued.

Yes, inside the rebound spring on at least one "K" frame, this one:):

I'm still trying to find a S&W in the house with the fixed stop & screw!
Especially a Model 19 or 66.

So far, no luck!

Let me know if you find one because I've got a no dash 66 that has the hole and the slot but no screw or trigger stop. I guess someone removed them instead of figuring it out?

I bought the pistol, a nice 2 1/2" round butt 66, with issues. Along with having to buy a cylinder because the old pinned type extractors are no longer available and convert the whole thing to later parts as a result and having to fit practically all of it, it's missing it's trigger stop if it ever had one.
