I haven't kept up with current S&W parts. Are the cylinders in the Scandium/Titanium guns interchangable with steel guns? As in, could you take a 329PD cylinder and fit it to a 629?

Anybody know for sure?

I'm thinking about making a Frankenstein gun out of a couple of Smith's. Might be the only way to get exactly what I want.

Or.... could you put a 629 barrel and cylinder on a Scandium 327?

Here is what S&W told me when I asked to have a titanium cylinder swaped for a stainless one. I don't like the titanium.

"Cyl. change is more complicated then I first
thought. We'd have to chk. cyl. length & see
how SS cyl interacts with alum/Si yoke.
Also Ti cyl. uses floating gas ring, SS cyl.
has staked in gas ring. "

I was told later that they are not interchangeable.

Just out of curiosity, I tried to swap the cyl/crane assembly from my 629-3 MP with my 329PD and vice versa. It didn't work -- the cranes are a differnt size/config. Next, I took the 629 cyl off the crane and reassembled in on the 329PD crane with all the other 329 parts (center pin, extractor, springs). This fit a little bit better, but still didn't work. Tried it the other way 329 to 629 -- obviously, that didn't work either. I didn't want to screw anything up, so at the first sign of any resistance I backed off. I don't think this is practical as a "drop-in" -- it would definitely require some gunsmithing, exactly how much, I don't know.
