As mentioned above, if the number B5074 was taken from under the barrel, then the actual serial number, which will be on the bottom edge of the frame between the grips, should be 5074, which will make it a .38 Military & Police 1st Model and one of 5000 ordered by the United States Navy in 1900.
If the number on the bottom of the grip frame is different then the above does not apply. A number taken from under the cylinder yoke may or may not be the serial number, depending on the age of the gun. With a B prefix it would not be.
