I searched the forums but could not find anything on this... I just got a new SA 1911 loaded and when I chamber anything that is considered self defense ammo the slide sticks shut. examples being Hydrashocks, Buffalobore hardcast, and Hornady xtp. there is marring on the bullets like it is contacting the rifling and/or the end of the chamber and the force of slide closing is jamming it. If I ease the slide into place it will not shut all the way without a little extra tap from me. I can get the slide to release but it takes me holding the slide in one hand and hitting the grip with the other.

Is this just a thing that happens before its fully broken in? Something I need to see my gunsmith about? or something I need to bring to the attention of Springfield?

Thanks in advance.

I had an aftermarket Glock barrel do that to my 27 with XTPs. The company who made the barrel had me send it in with a couple of the rounds I had trouble with, and they just opened up the throat a little and everything was great after that.

Maybe try it on the range and see if it'll chamber and fire regularly, yours may just be a little tight and need some use. I couldn't remove rounds without either firing them out or creating an unsafe situation, if you can get them out by hand it may be something to fix by breaking it in.

Just be sure that the each bullet leaves the barrel.

to clarify things a bit I can manually cycle normal 230gr ball loads and hollow points. Cheap of the shelf Blazers and Tula

Have you sent any downrange from it yet? I really wouldn't read much into it before you spend some time putting a wide variety of rounds out of it, see what the pistol actually does with each shot fired.

Im heading to the range tomorrow. Work has played hell with my range time.

Shoot a bunch of ball ammo through it before switching to HP. Mine felt sticky when I bought it to. I coated the frame rails with mothers mag polish and hand cycled it untill it smoothed out then replaced the extractor with a Wilsons bulletproof and the bushing with a EGW angle bore carry beveled and am more than happy with the results. I also sugest breaking the sharp edges on the slide with some 800 grit wet dry sand paper to avoid slicing your hands on them.

Chamber throat may be a bit short. But, I'd put at least 500 FMJ through it before wasting HP to function test. Regardless, hand-cycling is over-rated IMO.

Is this an "N" serial number SA Loaded?

Get a gunsmith to check the head space before you fire it if you want to kniw right away. Otherwise, call Springfield, send it in, and let them thoroughly check it over. They'll do this for free. It's very possible that the chamber was cut tight or short, and firing it as is could result in a serious overpressure condition.

It could be a few things from extractor tension to too sharp a transition between barrel ramp and chamber. The shape and length of the bullets you're having problems with indicate the latter for now. Because of the nature of the adjustment needed I recommend contacting Springfield. Shooting a bunch of rounds won't help.

Problem solved, just need 500 rds sent down range... so horrible... i complained the whole time
