SA vs DAO rate of fire...

Can a DAO pistol be fired as quickly as a SA pistol?

  • SA pistols naturally have a higher fire rate.

.....about fire rate in seni automatics. Is it mechanically or humanly possible to fire a double action only semi automatic pistol as fast as a single action semi automatic pistol.

You're asking two entirely different questions. Everyone is responding to the "humanly possible" question, so I'll respond to the "mechanically possible" question.

It IS mechanically possible for a DAO semi-auto to be fired as fast as a SAO semi-auto. Or at least do close, the difference would be measured in the 1000th's of seconds

Once the firing pin ignites the primer, the gun, be it DAO or SA, cycle equally fast. During this cycle time, the trigger can be reset as much as possible while awaiting for the slide to complete its cycling. At which point, a mechanical apparatus would pull the trigger again.

Granted, it is much easier to shoot the SAO faster.

Jerry's splits work out to .14, which is really fast for a revolver, but not unobtainable by someone seriously in pursuit of it.

Many people use the "exception to the rule" to make their point, while using their own ability to "set the rule" they are accepting.

The problem with the latter is that those people aren't especially good, but think their skill is representative of most shooters. Sadly, they may be correct as far as that part goes, but it overlooks the "they're not really that good" part.

Use the recoil time to reset the trigger and your splits will get shorter, regardless of what trigger mechanism you're using.

Don't care, you can't miss fast enough to win!

For fast, accurate fire the shooter is the limitation.

I often forget this. Maybe it is because I've seen what good is and I understand what it takes to get there.

I've never considered myself a good shot, I think of myself as capable or adequate; but I am constantly surprised by what often passes for "good"...and especially "good enough"

You forgot option 4: I do not notice any difference.

I guess it comes down to training in trigger management. Then again, Jerry Miculek seems to see some difference, yet still manages to get absurdly short split times with revolvers.

I have won many times, after missing. I have seen it done, too, many more times. This "truism" of "you can't miss fast enough to win" is bs. Oftentimes. the attacker has no gun, and a "mere" miss runs him off. The truth of this is shown every month, in the NRA's Armed citizen column.

The other guy can miss too, and in fact, most shots in combat completely miss. Most hits are poor hits, most handgun loads are very ineffective. So just because you got hit does not mean that you can't still kill the other guy and survive the fight (just fine, in fact).

During leatherslaps, man vs man shootoffs, it's common to see lots of misses, often by both sides, with a guy who missed at first still being the one who gets the first hit.

Lets say that you are like most cops, and you need 2 full seconds to react to a signal, make a ccw draw and hit on the chest, at 10 ft. I can react, make a cce draw from under a shirt tail, and miss in .85 second, believe it. :) I'll just fire a wild one handed hip shot, that's all. Then 1/4 second later, I'll be in the Weaver, hit, and I'll hit again 4 more times in the next .80 of one second. That's a total of 1.90 second. I'll have missed once, but then hit you 4x, before you ever fired your first shot. You CANNOT hit with a shot which you have not yet fired! If you haven't made your gun noticed by the attacker, you also can't intimidate him with it.
