Which gun would you recommend? The Springfield XD Sub-Compact .40? Or the Smith & Wesson M&P compact .40?

O own the Springfield XD sc. It is a fine gun and I love shooting it. However I handled a M&P Compact today and I must say that I think it fits my hand a bit better. Handle both and see which fits you better. Honestly you can't go wrong with either one.

I've held both several times. And they fit my hand about the same. Does the XD being chunkier than the M&P make that much of a difference when you carry it? What sold you on getting the XDSC?

What sold me on the XD is that we carried it in stock when I worked at Kieslers. We were a Distributor so we got a good price on them. It really came down to money for me, they were that close. In the Full sized gun I like the M&P a little more but in the SC it is really a toss up.

I have not found that the XD is any harder to conceal because of how blocky it is. The nice thing about the XD is that I can put a 10 round mag in it for concealed carry and then when I get home swap out for a 16 rounder with a grip extension and it is a great nightstand gun. I never even have to get into my safe.

The same thing can be done with the compact M&P using a mag sleeve from Custom Carry Concepts.

Don't the mags cost more for the M&P than for the XD?

Not sure what the difference in price is but you get two free mags with the current M&P rebate promotion. You can choose the large mags if you want, and end up having extended mags for your compact.

the two guns are dead even. it's up to YOU and only YOU can pick what fits best in your hand.

unique to the XD is the grip safety and the very good loaded chamber and striker position indicators.

unique to the M&P are the interchangeable backstraps for smaller or larger handed and magazine safety.

just take your pick from the two.

The Magazine safety is option on the M&P. Mine doesn't have one and I handled a 9c the other day that didn't either.

My XD45 runs perfectly. I love it. The SC .40 is a nice gun too. Look into "XD Gear Accessory Kits"

You can find em for the .40 and 9mm SC and they come with 2 SC mags, and one with the extension sleeve and another double-mag pouch. You can get em for 50-70 bucks. Not bad for 3 mags and a pouch.

Yeah, I'm planning on getting night sights. I'm wanting to get the xs big dot ones. Or the Heinie Straight 8's. But probably xs
