The day started pretty well. I went to the range with the intention of chronographing a slug load and some 9mm loads I'm working up. So I set my chronograph up five yards out and went to work. The slug load was a 1 1/8 oz. Thug Slug using the information on BP's website. Really nice! Three shots averaged 894.9 fps. It's actually 40 fps faster than what's published. I hoped to get to an accuracy test but didn't get around to it today. Maybe next week....

Then I went to the 9mm. I was trying out some 125 grain SWC bullets from Missouri Bullet Company. I used Lyman data, for the 130 grain bullet, #356634, starting with 5.2 grains of HS-6. I should've stopped after the first shot which was low to the right. The next three seemed to go where they were supposed to. You can see what the next one did. Maybe I flinched. The thing is sometime between putting the shotgun away and getting the pistol out, I think my brain switched gears. I don't do stupid things like flinching with the BHP. I always thought I'd shoot the chrony with the 10mm. I moved the target back ro fifteen yards and blasted the rest of the ammo just to see how it fed. There were a FTFs with the SWC rounds but the 9 Cone bullets worked without any glitches. Anyway... I had a good run with that machine. I'll buy another.

Since I mentioned the 10, here's how I ended the day.

One ten round magazine at fifteen yards.

Check with Chrony. I think the will help you out on price if the old one is sent in. Just something I seem to remember. I haven't shot one YET, but, it will probably happen eventually.

Welcome to the club!:p Take it from me that they are not good eating. One day the guy a few tables over from me at the range shot his. After cussing a great deal he did a mag dump into it. I was not impressed.

I have not bought a chrony yet because I can see myself doing one of two things. Leaving it at home, or sending rounds through it.

But like I once told a fishing buddy griping about spending money but not catching more fish... “We could roast marshmallows over a fire fueled by hundred dollar bills, wouldn’t have near as much fun, but would get the same end result”. Pour money into that which makes you smile.

I finally shot my Shooting Chroney Beta too after about 12 years of headaches it gave me. Damb thing never worked right on sunny days. Glad I killed it. hdbiker

There are two types of shooters. Those who have shot their chronographs, and those who are going to shoot their chronographs.

I'd second the Labradar. I use a MagnetoSpeed sporter personally, but this won't fit on your pistol (only MagnetoSpeed v3 with picatinny adapter for pistol laser sights will work) or your shotgun, assuming it's a full length mag tube. I hate the thought of shooting a chronograph.

Your not a true marksman until you put a hole in your Chrony. Sorry about it. I put a 45-70 across the top of mine last year. It survived with some bullet scratches. It happens.

Haven't hit mine (yet?) but I've always been concerned when shooting over it with a scoped rifle. I've taken to putting a strip of blue painters tape across the rods as a "do not aim below this line" marker.

I have a Chrony that my dad shot for me. He managed to hit the sky screen rod on the front left. It sent the chrony flying down range. I went to get it expecting the worst but it turned out it was unharmed. Bent the crap out of the metal rod though. I hammered it out straight and kept going. That was 20 years ago and I’ve still managed to not shoot it myself but I figured I’m due a booboo any time so I forked the money over and ordered a Labradar. Should be here Tuesday! I figured I might as well go out on top!!

Thanks for the kind words and sentiment, Gentlemen. Every time I set it up I thought to myself "Never put anything downrange you couldn't stand getting shot." As stated above "It happens". The second thing my eleven year old daughter said when she saw the Chrony was "How could you miss so bad?" I just said "Things happen." Fortunately nobody got hurt and it was relatively inexpensive. I figure hundreds of test loads and thousands of rounds is not shabby. Best to remember the happy times.

Thanks for the reminder. I remember looking this up on their website ten years ago or so and thinking it was a pretty brilliant marketing idea. I looked it up today and the offer is still there. It looks like they will give a credit toward any chronograph.

I think I posted that after I managed to hit two wands with a single round.

I feel like I crossed a threshold.

Thanks again and be careful out there, everybody.

It happens........ I'm still using the same Chrony after about 25 years.... Knock on wood.... It's probably livin on borrowed time....
