This almost sounds like a skit from "Saturday Night Live":

Saddam wants an American lawyer on his legal team (I'll bet he or she will be paid for with US tax dollars), as long as the American lawyer is NOT Jewish.

Here's the link to the article (I think this story was also reported on Fox News):

Daughter tells Israeli journalist: Saddam won't have Jewish lawyer

Former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein's daughter, Raghad, gave an interview to an Israeli journalist, in which she spoke of plans to hire an American lawyer, "as long as he's not Jewish". Raghad added she was "proud of my father's appearance in court".

"My only request is that my father get a fair trial", Raghad Hussein told Dafna Barak in an interview published Tuesday by the Arabic-language daily al-Sharq al-Awsat.

Raghad, 36, now residing in the Jordanian capital of Amman, was prompted to cooperate with journalists in order to avoid embarrassing her Jordanian hosts. Barak, an independent reporter, said she contacted Raghad over the Internet with the assistance of Raghad's children – especially her 15-year-old son, named Saddam. Until recently, their contact had been cut off by someone blocking Barak's messages.

Raghad, in the interview, complained that her father's lawyers were requesting exorbitant fees, and she expressed a desire to hire an American lawyer.

Barak then suggested a few names, one of them Jewish-sounding. "Excellent, but he's Jewish", responded Saddam's daughter. "You must understand that my father would never allow it. I don't judge people, but I cannot cooperate with Jews".

"I am proud of my father's appearance in court", Raghad added, "the way he showed no fear, and the way he spoke. He's a brave hero. I saw him in court, and he doesn't look well. We tried to get information from the Red Cross, but we didn't succeed".

Meanwhile, Raghad also praised her two brothers, Uday and Qusai, who were killed by American forces about a year ago in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul. She said that her younger sister, Hala, has yet to recover from their death. “They fought till the last moment. I am proud of themâ€.

She told Barak, “I cannot answer personal or political questions. I am the daughter of Saddam. You wouldn’t understand. I have a commitment since I carry his name and he needs my help now. After the death of my brothers, I am the only who can do it. My friends expect me to help himâ€.

Raghad together with her five children and her younger sister and her four children live in a house given to her by the Jordanian authorities in the upscale neighborhood of Abdun in Amman.

According to Raghad, she does not have money as many people believe. “We left with nothing. I am not ashamed that I don’t have money. I am the daughter of Saddam and I don’t want money from anyoneâ€.

Just my 2 cents...

No, give him a rookie public defender.

"your honor, I've talked to my client and we'd like to plea bargain from 700,000 counts of murder to 700,000 counts of manslaughter."

:D

What about a black, female Jewish lawyer who's family has inhabited Alaska or the Pacific Islands for the past 10 generations?

If we cant find one, shucks, looks like he'll have to defend himself. :neener:

Kharn

Oy Vey! What a shmuck!:what:

Actually he should get Badger. He'll work for gold plated AKs.:neener: :D

No, give him a rookie public defender

"Your Honor, I respectfully request the sentence reduced to probation and time already served. My client is elderly and in poor health. He has already lost his home, his job and his two sons. He presents no danger to the public. He should be allowed to peaceably live out his few short remaining years in his condo in Florida." :p

Yup, give him an American lawyer so his remaining terrorist friends can
b!tch when he gets executed. "see, they stacked the deck against him."

There has to be a female in the Bush family that is a lawyer. She should be the one to defend him, don't you think? Maybe she should convert to Judaism before she takes his case.

mmm... maybe this is their plan - make a martyr out of him and an American lawyer is part of the setup.

Wait, there are american lawyers who are not Jewish?

Oh, they must be from the south or midwest :)

In another 18 months I will be happy to defend him, I wonder how he feels about a Mormon? I am sure I will do an wonderful job of it too.

"In my professional opinion you best decision is to plead guilty and hope they don't torture you too much before excecution."

We can't afford Edwards

"I hear John Edwards will be available after November"

We really don't want that!

By the time he and his trial lawyer buddies were done Saddam would be suing the US Military for damages and expect an award of several billion. Then he would take his 33% cut and start complaining that the trial cost the American taxpayers too much.

It's the same philosophy he uses on health care. Sue health care providers for millions, then complain about the hight cost of health care when those awards affect malpractice insurance and liability costs.
