Safari Ching Sling & USMC M40A1

Shooting sticks and a bipod are better. Modern military snipers may learn to sling up (depending on the course they go through) but it isn't much emphasized, isn't considered terribly practical, and isn't much used out in the real world. At least one guy on the SOTIC committee in the SFG I was in was pretty outspoken about advocating that even the Level 1 course at Bragg de-emphasize the NRA-influenced portions of their curriculum, including use of slings, to concentrate more training hours/days on things guys are actually doing downrange like sniping in urban/built up terrain.

That's like claiming a sniper doesn't have time to train solid fundamental marksmanship because he's too busy training to be a sniper.

Very sad. The "the NRA-influenced portions" is nothing more than a means to train and reinforce solid shooting skills.

Oh, but we already "know" the fundamentals. Everyone is already an expert, (except for me.)

Why not check this out, written by a USMC-trained Scout Sniper.

To clarify -- what I quoted was the opinion of a guy who'd been through the Level 1 course and taught students in the Level 2 class, in addition to having used sniping skills downrange in the sandbox. And his thoughts were based on how we should best use training time to make the most efficient killers possible circa 2007 or so, six years into the war.

Compared to that, I don't much care what a peacetime sniper instructor had to say in 2000.

Well, I'm certain I can't piss as far up the wall as you two studs, but, to address the OP's post, That ching-sling looks quicker than my turner, probably a good idea if it's stiff enough.
