I'd like to stash a shotgun in our bedroom closet. I don't want to move it back and forth to the safe everyday; I'd like to lock it up and leave it.

That said, I'm looking for a theft-resistant method of securing it. While we will probably unlock it every night, it needs to be easy to open in an emergency. I also need it to be as small as possible; we don't have much space.

I've found a few items that seem to fit the bill:
Big Sky rack
Lock by Santa Cruz
Mossberg wall lock

Unfortunately, I've found few "consumer reports" on these items. How sturdy are they?

My main concern is theft. The value of the gun is not the issue: I'd hate to have it stolen and then used for criminal activities. I'd prefer that they have to damage the gun before they can remove it...

I've also looked into a couple of wall mounted safes, but they seem to be pretty light weight and easy to break open. If anyone has other suggestions, please post them up; I'm open to just about anything.

I would look into the gun mounts that they use in police cars. They are typically activated off of a 12 volt switch (easy to install and hide) with a key back up (in case the power goes out).

Fast access, fairly secure, and small.

I have the Mossberg LocBox and use it pretty much as you describe. It would keep a visitor from gaining access to it or an unwanted visitor from getting it into an operational state very easily. Mounts very close to the wall so it can be made pretty inconspicuous.

A thief with a crowbar I'm sure could get it off the wall without too much trouble and then then take it with them and pry it off later.

Does anyone know exactly how the "electronic" portion of the Santa Cruz lock works? I need to be able to lock up my shotgun for HD (kids in the house) but I want quick access and I don't like the idea of a key (too easy to misplace or to be found by someone who shouldn't have it)

I have my handguns in an electronic safe -- an electronic mount for the shotgun would be nice.

Never mind -- a little Googling shows me that this is designed to be mounted in a car and connected to a 12v battery. Not exactly ideal for use in my closet!

Back to the drawing board...

Actually, that's not totally true...
I talked to a rep at Santa Cruz today and decided to order a "home setup." It's got a key lock, but it also has the electronic option (if I choose to hook it up).
This is the setup I ordered

As my main concern is theft (no kids) I may add another lock to the top of the setup, assuming I get around to wiring everything up.
Barrel lock

Once I have everything in hand and decide how I'm going to mount it, I'll check in and give you the scoop.
