I recently installed a micrometer on my Uniflow powder measure, and I've noticed that the part that screws into the cylinder seems to loosen up every 10 or so throws. Is it ok to put some blue Loctite on the threads? Or will it gunk up my powder?
I emailed RCBS and the response was to tighten the set screw at the end of the micrometer, not even close to what I was referring to.

There should be no way for the powder to touch the threads on the micrometer as long as you don't put the Locktite all the way to the end that goes into the measure. Even if you did once it's dry, it's dry...

I can't speak in favor of the use, but, if you do, use the purple (low strength). You don't want to have to wrench very hard to disassemble.

But locktite doesn't dry if it's not compressed, tightly. I just pulled apart an M die plug I had lock-tited a year ago. It came loose, almost by itself. The red locktite was still gooey; I think because the threading is not very precisely fitting. I installed a compression washer, instead.

Not all of the current Locktite products are created the same. I think there are 5 or 6 now and all are different.

When you say "red" Locktite are you talking about the common red or the red one used for hydraulics?

I'll have to check mine but I think there is a small set screw in the side which will hold the body in place.

Have you taken the Micrometer apart ... there should be a set of flats for a wrench under the outer part ... if you tighten it down good ... it should not be coming loose ???

Take the small set screw out and remove the outer barrel ...

Thanks for all the input. I went ahead and applied some Loctite to the last thread or two and am letting it set now

I did miss that. I didn't tighten it down with a wrench, but I will. Mine also didn't install like it said in the instructions. The metering screw just falls right through the hole in the cylinder

That was probably your trouble all the time ... it needs to be tightened down pretty good ... that is the reason for the wrench flats...

The instructions are for a Large rotor ... so a small may be different ...

Did you see the part about the shims to align the scale ...

Yea, everything is aligned good. I'll just loosen the set screw and take off the bottom part (thimble) and wrench it tight when I get home. Thanks for the help

Here a little tip I posted in another thread ,,,

There is a way ... well sort of ... to reset the Micrometer on the RCBS stem.... to the same zero...

I position the stem at say three o'clock .... Take the thimble off ... screw the stem all the way down until it touches the meter housing ... loosen the Allen setscrew at the top edge of the micrometer part ... turn the micrometer part until it reads "zero" .... lock the Allen setscrew down tight...

If you do this BEFORE you start recording the settings and you make sure the stem is in as close as possible the same position(3 O'clock) ... each time you have to remove it and replace... it will be very very close to dead on ....

Warning ... do not try to move the rotor with it locked against the housing as you could scratch the housing and the end of the stem...
