The only thing keeping me from Smartcarrying a 1911 is that long, pointy beavertail at the back. Is there a way to safely mod/replace the beavertail to fix this issue?

The best I can imagine is sticking in a Para Carry style grip safety, but would the hammer be safe cocked & locked?

Sure, start grinding it to taste, or look at a return to the original configuration grip safety since those long pointy beavertails were never part of a 1911 until someone thought that they looked good..

See, that wasn't hard, now was it?

I found the smartcarry to be uncomfortable without a beavertail. And there is just something disconcerting about a cocked and locked pistol, pointing at your wee wee.

As I understand it, a pistol in the SmartCarry doesn't really point at your "wee wee," it actually points below it and downwards.

There's a video on YouTube of a guy trying to purposely AD his (unloaded) Glock in a SmartCarry. It's pretty informative.

At any rate, a safe modern pistol shouldn't be going off in a smartcarry or really any other quality, well made holster anyway.

How were you carrying it? I tried simulating a defender or officer model by taking the upper off a government, and I had a hard time avoiding being stabbed by the beavertail.

Well, they may only "look good" on a .45, but I've yet to fire a 1911 in 10mm that didn't NEED a beavertail safety. Come to think of it, I've never shot a .45 that didn't benefit from one, either.

JMB was a genius, but he wasn't God.

Below YOUR "wee wee" Paul, maybe, but are you prepared to speak of ALL "wee wees"? :)

I'm just telling you my experience, with my Smartcarry, and my pistols. YMMV. Hard to draw from too. And I didn't even say anything about the nice post-menopausal bulge you get below your belt.

I can't imagine a 1911 stuffed that far down my pants!

Seems to me it would be about like carrying a brick in your shorts, comfort-wise!
