I wear my regular glasses to the range, but I am wondering if anyone has found affordable safety glasses or glasses that can be worn over my regular glasses

Regular plastic safety goggles are available at places like Home Depot for a couple of bucks. They are good enough for anything short of a catastrophic gun failure. More expensive ones, using special safety glass, are also available, but cost more. Another alternative is to have prescription shooting glasses made; the cost is high, but you can wear them all the time and not need special glasses for the range.

The side shields attached to glasses in chemistry class look a little dorky but do the trick nicely.

My local Scheels store

has shooting glasses made to go over regular glasses and they cost me $5 a few months ago. I have to wear glasses and these fit over my own glasses easily enough and are not uncomfortable. They have some curvature at the outside in order to go over glasses. I thought perhaps this would give some sight distortion an interfere with my shooting. I am not a very good or very experienced shooter but I do NOT think they have interfered with my accuracy. BTW Scheels is a sporting goods outfitter chain with an extensive gun and shooting department.

I went to Wal Mart optical and had them make me a set of ANSI safety glasses in my prescription. Their heavier then my regular glasses, but work much better then trying to wear something over my regular glasses.

But NJshooter,

those do not appear to be safety glasses, that is, where is the high impact protection??

My subjective opinion is that the "chameleon" model that they are selling as hunting/shooting glasses provide about as much protection as the basic Home Depot style safety glasses. I also wear a pair of thick prescription lenses under them for extra protection :)

Also see Fitovers - I use the sunglasses version but clear polycarb lenses are available also...

Web search will find LOTS of places that sell 'em.

With my prescription, I just can't afford new lenses all the time... :-(
