A bit of a rant… I’m sure many have heard of the Chelsea King murder in Rancho Bernardo CA. While running on trails around a lake park, she was raped and killed allegedly by a 6’3” 230lb convicted sex offender with a history of violence towards young girls. It hits home for me in that I live two miles away and my family regularly hikes around the lake’s trails. My two daughters went to the same high school as Chelsea. This vicious attack and killing has left the entire community shaken.

The park signage explicitly prohibits weapons of any kind - “NO HUNTING OR FIREARMS ALLOWED, FIREWORKS ARE PROHIBITED- This includes all weapons; guns, rifles, bow and arrows, sling shots, and spears. Regardless of the target these items are not allowed. Weapons put the public’s safety at risk (*see No Collecting or removing of any plant or animal and Fires are strictly prohibited for explanation).” So we can have sexual predators stalking our kids in the park they can’t possess any practical/effective means of defending themselves? Sorry but I can’t buy that any more. Discretely armed we will go and I’m wondering how we go about getting this particular park rule changed to allow for self-protection.

be careful of what you say. what you're talking about is violating the law, and it's not tolerated on most forums, including this one.

Remote possibility of a citation for violation of a misdemeanor city ordinance Vs safety of your family.

Not really that hard to figure out is it?

1. Nobody needs a gun. The police will "protect" you... unless they can't or don't feel like it.
2. 110lb. women don't need guns to protect themselves from 210lb. rapists. "Xena, Warrior Princess" was a documentary.
3. The rapist will just take the gun away (but you can't take it back).

The legislators of the States of Illinois and Wisconsin have decided that it's ALWAYS better for a woman to be beaten, raped and murdered than for her to defend herself with a firearm outside of her home.

The legislators of the State of California have decided that it's SOMETIMES better for a woman to be beaten, raped and murdered than for her to defend herself with a firearm outside of her home.

Yes, a firearm is not going to be allowed - even if openly carried unloaded as normally permitted under CA state law. Same with a spear, sword, bow,etc.. But I'm not going out without at least a folding knife (a tool of last resort). Even a folding knife might enhance your odds. Perhaps a belt carried sheath knife will skirt the "weapon" definition.

Where I live all the city parks have "no firearms" posted in the parks. But all the police I have talked to tell me that as long as I am not doing anything stupid or otherwise illegal I am good to go.

Most police around here are very pro carry.

thank G*D i live in PA. we can carry in any parks we want to; we have to CC in state parks, but we can OC/CC in any other park. no parks are off limits.
