Safety question about NAA Mini-revolvers for CCW

I would love to, I’ve never quite forgiven my parents for blessing me in that I was born in San Antonio then ripping me out of the heart of Texas before my first birthday. I know if I place one foot on Texas soil I will never leave.

It didn’t used to be so bad around here, we could go out west past the drainage canals and shoot all the time, then the fences went up and they started getting nasty. More recently Miami-Dade County shut down all the ma and pa ranges we had scattered around, Henry, my exotic wood guy, told me they are fighting it, that their are laws on the books that keep the county from infringing on this right.

I’m kind of lazy so when I go to the range 2 to 3 times a month, usually, I don’t like to shoot more than two fire arms, I’m finicky about cleaning them and don’t want to clean more than a couple at a time. The little NAA is last on the long list of revolvers and pistols that I routinely shoot.

Years ago when I was even dumber than I am now I carried on in my front pocket with no holster and my truck keys in there to. If it was going to happen to anyone it would have happened to me, I worked under houses and in ceilings on a daily basis. I did this for maybe 3 years +?-(guessing) never once did I pull it out of my pocket with the hammer cocked.

The little hammer isn't exactly the easiest thing to cock, you would no doubt notice a 'tug' on your pants if it did get in that bad of a bind.

Not going to happen. The hammer spring on the little NAA is quite stiff; there is ZERO chance of jiggling around in a pocket cocking it. From a "not going to fire" standpoint, this is probably your best choice.

From a "not going to do much" when you do fire standpoint, this is also a good choice.

To be safe or not to be safe?

This thread keeps going and going! My little question seems to have stirred quite a discussion.

Two very interesting quotes:

years ago when I was still working under I got home late and put my jeans in the washer in the moring I put them in the dryer after I pull them out I found I had forgotten to take the little gun out of my pocket. It was still on the safty nocth so I don't think they get worked off all that easy.

Seems to prove that they ARE safe.

I carried a NNA 22 mag for about 4 years in my front pocket, all alone in its little holster. One evening getting home from work I unloaded my pockets as usual, and found out that the hammer had been cocked, this scared the wits out of me. Needless to say it was the last day it was carried.

Seems to prove that they are NOT safe.

In order for it to get cocked you need two things to happen: a force on the hammer and a force somewhere else on the weapon to cause the frame and the hammer to move in opposite directions. Not going to happen if it is floating loose in a pocket - any force on the frame or the hammer would just cause the whole gun to move. Either the frame or the hammer would need to be fixed (i.e. tangled up in fabric or wedged into the bottom of the pocket) while the other part is still free to move and has a force act upon it.

Not the old ones, but I just let the hammer down in between the rounds. Serves the same purpose.

By the way, that screw has reverse threads....

I would be willing to bet it was unknowingly cocked before it went into the pocket that day. Oblivious no one could prove or disprove that.

I finally took a picture of the holster I made for my new NAA "The Earl" last weekend, it fits in my pocket and it's pretty easy to flip the flap up and out of the way.

You haven't shot it, yet? I'm interested in how accurate it is off the bench. The gun does have a cool look to it and the sight radius is WAY beyond mine. LOL!

No and it's driving me crazy, I just got it a week ago Thursday. I took it with me today on a motorcycle ride down to Everglades City hoping to find a quiet stretch or side road I could fire it on. I'm thinking the range might let me shoot this one but it closes tomorrow for the next three months for renovation, I just found out this morning.

I still have to sight in the T/C .54 for deer season, I’ll have to take a ride up to Markum Park, I’ll take a tent and make a weekend of it.
