Probe after Army supervisor shot

An investigation has been launched after an Army safety supervisor was accidentally shot at a firing range, it has been reported.

The sergeant was hit in the leg by a weapon allegedly fired by a captain.

The officer from the Royal Scots regiment had gone to the range with a Minimi machine gun for target practice before being posted to Iraq, The Sun reported.

But he stumbled as he was carrying the loaded weapon and accidentally fired it.

The bullet hit the supervisor in the calf, passing through his leg.

The accident happened at a range between Lydd and Hythe on the Kent coast, the newspaper stated.

A Ministry of Defence spokesman would not discuss the circumstances of the accident but said: "We can confirm a range safety supervisor received a minor injury."

He added: "The MoD treat all live firing incidents with the utmost seriousness and a full investigation is ongoing."

Isn't there also something against having the weapon loaded and ready to go before you are even at the firing line? Most ranges I have been to don't like that. Not sure if military ranges are different.

There was no issue with the trigger. The evil gun obviously went off on its own. :D

Could it be that making all weapons illegal to civilians has effected their skills badly?

Weapon also wasn't on safe, either.
I thought even the UK military enforced the usage of the safety?
