I just ordered an optics mount from Tantal. Low mount, $29.95. We'll find out if it'll adjust in or not. Now I'm trying to decide what sort of optic to hang on it. I'm torn between the cheap route (Okko?) or the one I usually take (EOTECH).

Please keep me informed. I've got an unused cheapie dot that I'll start with to see if it helps or hinders.

Jayman: Race fans prefer 200mph tape. You can also tape it to your forehead.
No comment. None at all. Didn't hear what you said and I don't want you to repeat it, neither. :uhoh: :p

How hard would it be to make 25-round drums for a Saiga? :D Yeah, they'd be heavy, but just imagine... bump firing... :what: :D :D

I think that if I were to get a Saiga 12 with a 20" barrel, pistol grip and fixed shoulder stock, and three 25-round drums, that would be the...wait for it... "ULTIMATE" :p shotgun. For me, anyway... I would buy two.

When I shot the VA Regional Indoors, there were several people twisting their surefires to on and then leaving them at a table at the beginning of one stage. Worked pretty good. Real world application of that is probably NIL.

On that same stage when you cross a certain point, floodlights come on. When that happened, I dropped my Surefire into my pocket and continued shooting. The SO asked about it, but didn't penalize me, so I guess nobody cared.

I'll work on figuring out 10-11 round magazines first before I start in on the drums. The magazines seem more useful to me in a variety of situations.

FWIW, the cost of one of my "high cap" 10-11 round magazines is likely to approach the $100 mark. :( (And that is if it works out, depends on my boy with the digitizer and CNC mill....)

I have thought of a drum though. I got the really really rough plans in my head. If we started turning those out and they were all over the place, I'm guessing we'd be ushering in the era of the Saiga as a DD though. :(

Saiga are fun. A local guy set up a 20 gauge with a JP-style recoil reducer, Delrin mag well, and threaded it for Beretta choke tubes (CDNN was having a sale ;) ). Works VERY well, and looks sporty.

I'm working with him to set up another one for my wife.

Me...I just use a USAS-12. 10 round stick mags, 20 round drums, EOTECH on a custom scout rail... If you can carry it (12 pounds empty, BTW), it is the trick setup :D

Anti-mag-fed-shotgun stages are...amusing. Not so much to shoot, but because they demonstrate the lockstep of little minds to the status quo.

Shot the night match last night. Did not get home until close to 4:00 am because somebody lent me some really slick NVGs to play with. You haven't had shotgun fun until you are blasting plates in the pitch dark with a Saiga with an IR laser mounted on it! :)

I got a feeling Jackstraw beat me. That happens when your flashlight battery dies during a stage and you place a slug through the hostage's forehead. (it would have been a stupendous shot if it had been on the correct target!) :D

Virginia seems relatively gun friendly, but ...

Your toy would not be welcome here Wakal :(

It shall be unlawful for any person to import, sell, possess or transfer the following firearms: the Striker 12, commonly called a "streetsweeper," or any semi-automatic folding stock shotgun of like kind with a spring tension drum magazine capable of holding twelve shotgun shells. A violation of this section shall be punishable as a Class 6 felony.

I'm just fine...read it again. It says "...folding stock shotgun of a like kind...".

A USAS-12 has a solid stock, and the way it is designed...can't have a folding stock. I know, I've tried to adjust the length of pull so a burly (but short) friend could use it :)

NVG shotgun match? Oh yes...now THAT sounds like fun!

Yesterday's match around these parts just had four shooting boxes laid out over 40 horizontal yards. Down range from the first box was a two-armed Texas Star ("the Hammer"), the second box had a three-armed Texas Star, the third box a four-armed Texas Star, and the fourth box had a five-armed Texas Star ("the Classic"). Each arm of a Texas Star holds a 8" plate, and the hub is a bearing raceway...it sits quietly at rest, like a sleeping tiger, until it is disturbed (i.e. shooting off one of the plates). Then the star is out of balance and starts to spin.

That would be fun at night, too, come to think of it...

Oh yeah, I know the five arm texas star, there was one at that shotgun match that got this post rolling. They had it partly obscured by barrels, to make it even more fun/irritating. :)

I think it was a little more than just the 5 sec penalty...

And for the Shotgun event: I used a put together rem 870 with a factory top folding stock and a standard 5 round capacity 18in bead sight.

I stand corrected. No excuse not to come shoot with us sometime Wakal.

Here is another quote from http://www.gunlaws.com/vgogup.htm

A careful analysis by Beretta Product Manager Gabriele de Plano reveals that the USAS-12 shotgun is not prohibited under Virginia law.

I'd heard they were, so when I spead read the previous quote, I missed it. Sad thing is I shoot better than I read.

Good shooting Jack. You kicked major serious booty. :) You beat me on every single stage.

Hey, I won hand held at least. Weapon mounted is the way to go. I've got to get me a weapon mounted light. There just is no comparison in speed between the two systems.

Next year. :)
