I am a new member and just bought a new Saiga 12 semi auto magazine feed shotgun. planning all kinds of mods at this point. what a sweet weapon. Anyone else here have one or any experience with them?
thanks, Mike

The first gun I ever bought was a Saiga in 20 gauge. I found out the hard way that the 20 gauge version jams all the time with light loads. I had a lot of fun with mine and I am looking to get an S12 eventually. They are relatively heavy and are not the type of gun you go carrying into the woods for any length of time. Have fun with it and give us a range report!

Saiga

I took mine to the range and shot a couple of light load birdshot through it and also some 3" mag 00 Buck.
it cycled everything well but you did have to adjust the gas valve for the lighter load, not sure if the 20 has that adjustment.
I don't find it to be much heavier than my Rem 870 but it may be.
Mine is an 18" barrel model and I am about to do some very serious mods to it which will make it run much more efficiently.
Since its built on an AK platform, its a sold gun, mike

The 20 gauge does indeed come with the gas regulator but I could never make mine work right. I couldn't use it on the local trap range anyway because of their silly rules!

well take a look on you tube, I think the 20 suffered from the same problem as the 12 in that many of them were manufactured inproperly.
The gas ports were not drilled right or were not the right size and will never cycle right.
Its really common. The you tube video shows you exactly what to look for and how to fix it, vey easy,

I'm afraid that would be a waste of my time since I sold the weapon. I will be sure to do some research before I buy a Saiga 12 though.

I did a long T&E of a Saiga and wrote it up here. You may find it educational.

Hit Search, then Advanced Search, type in Saiga and my name....

The Saiga 12 is an excellent shotgun, though it needs a couple of upgrades to reach its full potential. I recommend an MDArms adjustable gas plug. This will allow you to finger-adjust your gas system, without tools. It also gives you much finer control over it. The second thing I recommend is the Gogun TwisterPuck replacement gas puck. This lets the gun shoot much lighter loads.

You might also consider a Poly-Choke 2, though that costs $100. Great if you intend to take it hunting, though, as I do.

Are they making hi-cap mags for these again (not the drums I have seen those)? I remember when I bought mine they cost a fortune.

The first weapon I ever purchased was a Saiga 12 as well.

What a fun little blaster. Be sure to adjust the gas setting accordingly. It took about 500 rounds for her to get beaten in properly. After that it worked on any gas setting any load.

What a fun shotgun.

I love my s12.. I highly recommend getting a recoil pad unless you love bruised shoulders... I prefer the limbsaver.. I also had some cycling issues with mine and that was solved by getting an "autoplug" by tac-47 it automatically adjusts so you can shoot anything from low brass to buckshot and slugs... don't expect flawless performance until you break it in with a few hundred rounds... don't shoot competitions until both your gun and mags are properly broken in also.... they can be picky from one shotty to the next using mags... I don't know why.. also saiga 12s are superfun to shoot clays with...

Mike,

First off invest in shotgun shells. They have a rapacious appetite.

Second, a drum.

Third, the AK conversion to pistol grip.

Fourth, shorten the barrel to 18.25-in.

Fifth, more shotgun shells!

Saiga

Wow what a bunch of wonderful info.
It will take me a while to assimilate all this info.
I have been talking with a couple of smiths about doing some mods to the gun.
I've been planning to
cut the barrel with muzzle brake permanently attached for a total length of 18+ inches as HSO recommended.
Also installing the pistol grip and moving the FCG forward.
Reliability package
gas mods.
Vertical foregrip.
Magpul telescopic stock.
modified safety moved to below trigger guard like an 870 Remington.
cross bolt system.
and refinish gun in Olive green
etc etc.
Oh and did I mention buying lots of shotgun shells LOL
20 round drum mag coming. mike

double stack mags?

I just read an old thread that was referenced ealrier in this thread and it was really informative.
So, does anyone know if MD actually came out with the double stack mags for the S12 yet?
I've seen them for the AR's but didnt even know someone was going to make them for the S12.

No double stacks and no real meaningful updates on them. I imagine they will make their way to the market but I'm also not holding my breath.

The product I am excited for is the JTE mag well that will work with unmodified mags and drums. The prototypes have looked very promising. I may well ditch my current JTE mag well when the new one comes out.

wow how interesting. I am about to send my gun to Jack right now for a whole series of major upgrades including the magwell thing. Hum, I better ask him what Im getting.
Here is a list of some of the parts he is installing:

1 Each CSS Tri Rail (Saiga 12)
1 Each Tromix Tapco Single Hook FCG
1 Each VLTOR Stock Adapter MIL Spec
1 Each MAGPUL MOE STOCK Black MIL Spec
1 Each Muzzle Brake JTE brake.
1 Each Vertical Fore Grip Mission-First Tactical
1 Each JTE Rock N Lock Guide
1 Each JTE Extended Magazine Release

I have a new Saiga 12 and had problems with Birdshot, so i sent it off for a conversion it was cheaper than me trying to do it and they garunteed me it would cycle low brass bird shot. I cant wait to get a gun that works, if it even exsits

@kendals... it does exist... I go thru 20 round drums and 10 round sticks without a single issue with low brass...

I'm still breaking mine in (as you can tell from the other Saiga thread). The first thing I did was put quad rails on mine with a Magpul MOE. I mounted a flashlight and an EOTech on it with a railgrip handle. Now that it looks great, I've got to get it cycling like it should. I can't wait because that string of 20 (from my MD 20-round drum) magnum 00 buck was awesome. Cutting a lifesize target in half with buck shot at 7-12 yards in less than 20 seconds is a good feeling!

i cant wait to get mine back... I cant wait to breeze through a MD 20 drum. its been 10 weeks and im gettting impatient. Is that normal to have to wait this long.

Also her is my list of Goodies. If i had only known about the Saiga 12 Conversion Sooner.

AR Six Pos Folding Stock

My Reciever Cut OFF

Thickened Truninon

Houge PG

Custom Charging Handle

A Magwell Feeding Device

HK Tig Sight Bases

18 inch Chaos Muzzle Breacher
