Hi all,

Long time lurker, new poster and gun enthusiast. I recently purchased and had converted a Saiga .308 with new tapco G2 trigger. Several clips of old NATO 7.62x51 and Wolf .308 ammo went through the gun from a Surefire 25 round mag with no problem. Taking the gun to the range I began experiencing multiple misfeeds per clip where the bullet actually got "snagged" and would not chamber, would not seat correctly, etc. I was surprised to say the least as these guns are known for their reliability. My friend said he thought I hadn't cleaned it enough but I think for the low number of rounds through it (probably About a hundred) that should not have been an issue. Also it seemed to be scratching the shells while chambering and denting them after ejection. Any ideas on improving reliability and fixing this problem?

I had never heard of installing a bullet guide for a saiga .308. I was under the impression they were only needed so you could use standard AK clips on a Saiga 7.62x39.

A bullet guide isn't likely to be necessary. As long as the magazine you're using has one built in to it (it probably does) then the rounds should feed fine. Just in case though, have you tried the rifle with the factory magazine? If it works fine with that one but not with the Surefire mag then that's your problem.

You might want to ask the guys at the saiga12 forums if you've ruled out mag problems.

Did you install a bullet guide?

As stated S308s don't need bullet guides as all the 308 magazines that fit the gun are designed to work with the saiga.

I was under the impression they were only needed so you could use standard AK clips on a Saiga 7.62x39.

Certain 5.56 mags also require a bullet guide on the 5.56 guns.

As others have said the denting of the casings is very normal for AKs.

I would try another magazine first to try and determine if that is causing the issues. Surefire S308 mags are OK but not great.

He talks about S308s a lot, or at the least regularly bumps his own trite thread about them, but based on reading a lot of his posts and some discussion I have had with him online I would hardly call him a guru, or anything even approaching that.
