Hi I am thinking of buying a SGL series rifle. Are the SGL series of rifles 20,21,31 real AK receivers or are they saiga conversion's? And what is the diffrence between the SGL-20 AND SGL-21.

A saiga is a "real" AK receiver, more real than a build on a US made receiver and as real as you can get without buying a full auto.

I have a sgl-31. I don't have the slightest clue what the difference between a 20 and a 21 is. However my 31 says saiga on the side of it. Other than that you would be hard pressed to tell it was a saiga. I also own a saiga 308 and in my opinion the rifle is top notch.
If I was in the market for an ak right now I would find a milled arsenal if I could, followed by a 107fr

Some Saigas like mine, do not take large cap AK magazines. They can be modified but I don't know how legal that is.

That is true the front trunion of a typical saiga needs a bullet guide to reliably function with all standard AK mags. (the mag catch also needs to be filed down slightly).

BTW it is legal IF you are otherwise compliant with 922R. Long story short you need ten or fewer parts from the evil parts list to be foreign made. Remove four from your saiga with out adding any addtional evil foreign parts and you are good to go.
