Hey All, this seems like a pretty good place to ask as there seems to be a fair amount of Saiga traffic lately. My question is to Saiga S-12 questions regarding barrel length. As this is meant to be more of a self defense shottie, I really want a 19" barrel but only seem to come across the 24".

If I buy a 24"...anyone want to trade me for a 19"?
Are there any other specific differences in these two besides length (seems like I have read about different sights and BHO features, no?
Any advantages to the longer length in what I can do with it?
Differences in choke systems between the two?
One person made mention about just chopping the longer one down. Hard? Process?

I like a shorter barrel on a serious social shotgun (which end up being pretty much the same as my gamer guns, as I love me that 3 Gun stuff ;) ). I'd recommend sending it off to Briely for a cut-down and choke tube treatment or to Tony (Tromix) for a cut down/thread/Polychoke treatment. Either would work fine; my primary 3-Gun shotgun has chokes and my secondary has a Poly. Since competition guns are useless unless they go bang every time under all conditions, I keep at least one of mine handy for serious social use as well :D

Thx all...bought a 19" for $435 + $15 S&I. I also bought a slightly used 19" 20 Ga with 4 5 rnd mags, hard case and scope mount for $275 delivered from the same place. BONUS! So...how did I do?

I'd say you did good, TOU. The 12's are running around the $400-$450 mark from what I hear. It does sound like a darn good price for the 20 gauge.

Thanks...

Yeah that seems to be about as good a price on a 19" shottie these days as I could find. I did come across a 24" for $389 but just wanted the short one. Actually I was having a heck of a time even finding the 19" shotties at all. Admittedly, I have seen them cheaper previously and see them listed from some retailers cheaper. The only problem is that those are the listed prices....unfortunately they don't have any in stock and don't know when they are going to get more. My understanding of the last shipment of 2500 total Saiga's to RAA...that only 200 or less were 12 Ga's.....for the entire US. Word is they have no confirmation on how many if any 12 Ga shotties in the next shipment in 6 weeks. Anyway, I'm just happy that I got something even if I paid slightly more than some.

Oh and on the 20 Ga, I've never even shot one before...it just seemed like a good deal to try one out. I had originally thought that I'd get the .410 but than priced the two different ammo's. I noticed that.410 is less plentiful and pretty spendy compared to 12 Ga and 20 Ga. Now just got to get to gathering some conversion supplies. ;)
