Has anyone else been tempted to pick up a used Saiga-12, verify it's in good working order, convert it to a pistol grip format with appropriate domestic part count, register it with the ATF as a short barrel shotgun, and chop that barrel down to 14" or so?

Would the gas system still cycle reliably? Could I have the barrel threaded at that time for various chokes?

Just pondering. I have a Saiga-12 on-hand that I wouldn't mind beating up in this manner.

Tony Rumore (Tromix Corp) did make some before he quit the gunsmithing business. the barrel lenght was around 12" I do belive he did have to open up the gas ports. The bad thing about the gun is you can't find any mags for sale.
