Anyone have experience with the Saiga .308 rifles? How does the accuracy of a stock Saiga compare to M1A and other semi automatics?

The paint on mine is fairly/surprising durable. BTW, Mil-Dot, check your spelling in your tag line quote on "ignorant liberal friends."

I relly think that the accuracy of the 308 is quite good. I remember once, at the range, there was about 5 min to go in the session. i quickly loaded up 100 rounds of various mfgrs, randomly in my mags. I then shot at 100 yards, open sites, at a 5 inch shoot n see target. I would say that i pulled the trigger , every time i got my sites back on , and took two deep breaths, about every 7 to 10 seconds. I fired all 100 rounds.
When I went downrange, i had hit my target 96 times. This was with the 16 inch bbl version. I would really like to see what the one with the 22 inch bbl, and wood furniture could do.

I have a 16" barrel Saiga 308 that is converted to traditional form.

The rifle is doing consistent 1-1.5 MOA groups using 8X optics. I've never fired the rifle using iron sights, but in general AK irons aren't great for marksmanship. Simply adding Mojo peep sights to any AK will tighten groups up considerably if you want to use irons.

I can't comment on the durability of the finish because I baked on some Duracoat soon after getting the firearm.

I was tinkering with my Saiga, trying to remove the stock from the rear block. Stupid me, I forgot one screw (without realizing it), so I started to bang on the stock over my painted wooden workbench with a deadshot hammer.

While the stock stayed intact, I managed to scrape a couple square inches of white paint and splinters from my workbench, and only put a few hairline scratches into the rifle.

Supposedly, the paint Izhmash uses is similar to 1600deg duplicolor black, so it's impervious to fingernail scratches and my tinkering.

I have had a 22inch saiga 308 or more than three years and I love it, strong, reliable, accurate etc etc. So much that I am about to trade my nice reliable (yeah) cetme for another saiga 308. They hold up nicely!

The Saiga is an AK. It doesn't need the brake cleaner treatment. If you do hit it up with brake cleaner, it will not strip the finish off, but yes, you'll see purple juice. If you do it excessively and often, you can destroy the finish.

Use the Gun-Scrubber synthetic, the one that is safe for plastics and paint. IF you need to do that to an AK.

I don't clean my Saiga like I clean my AR's. I just use an oily patch (CLP) and wipe down all the surfaces on the carrier and bolt and piston. This removes the carbon and lubricates at the same time. Carbon is really no harm, especially on an AK. If it builds up thick enough, it will flake off during firing anyway. Flakes will not stop the AK. I'll hit up the bolt face with a brush though, get under the extractor. Firecontrol just gets a short spray of Rem Oil. If a lot of rounds have been fired, a quick once over with a nylon shotgun brush to clean the piston tube. Cleaning the barrel is the same as any other firearm.

Process should be fairly quick and easy.

I don't see the paint finish as being a major negative of the Saiga. If it were parked, that would have been better. It is irrelevant on this platform.
