Assuming that you really meant VX-III, that should be a decent combo. I'm happy with a Vari-X-III 1.75 - 6 x 36 on a Cooper 7mm-08.

With the Sako 75 consider ring height. If you are using the Optilock bases and rings you will easily clear 44mm optics, even in the lowest variation. I am personally running medium rings and regular bases on my 75 Stainless Synthetic and clear 56mm optics.

I find the idea of the VX-L a little odd. A crescent shape out of the primary lens just doesnt work for me. If magnification works on refracted light then it seems hokey to change the geometry. I guess thats just me. I've never used one myself. If you can get it low to the barrel profile it may be ok. YMMV.

bigcim,

It sounds like you got a very good deal on your rifle, Congrats. I haven't used the VX-L in the field, but have used one at the range. It should be a great scope for your rifle. With all the testing the gunwriters have done on this scope for their articles, you shouldn't have any problems with the scope. Mount it up and enjoy your new rifle.

I've shot the same rifle, very nice. I wish I have the $ for one (someday).

My buddie has the L on his Abolt and it's a goofy looking, but sweet scope. I'm still worried about the long term stability and seal on the objective lense.

I love it! I am very happy I went with the Laminated Wood, instead of the syn stock. I'm also happy with the .270WSM. It's been shooting 1 inch or less with factory Federal Premium 140gr Accubonds (off the bench of course).

I'll keep it until my son starts hunting and then I'll get the laminated Sako, again in .270wsm.

If I'm this happy with the Tikka, I can't imagine life with the Sako.

Enjoy your new toy.

BTW, my buddie's gun took a fall (slipped while leaning against his bench) scope took the shock. NOW his L leaks. He checked it by putting a small pool of water on the lens...it fogged. He's checking with Leupold as to his options...

I think the Leopold has a lifetime warranty doesn't it. my sons months i bought my berreta 391 sporting for him I wanted the laminated stock but fell on the synthetic i would of bought the tikka because sako didn't have a 7 rem laminated

Leuplod offered to replace the scope, but he talked them into allowing him to get a mark 4 instead. He likes the 4 a lot better, but again, it's higher...

Some day I'll have my grey, Laminated Sako in 270wsm, but for now I'm happy with the Tikka.

Good luck and I hope to see some range reports and pics!

I don't think it'll be worth all the extra cash for the L. It's kinda weird looking on a nice rifle and a freind of mine has sent 2 back for leaks. A 50mm will mount low on a sako. I'd get the vx-III B & C. It's about 200+ dollars cheaper. I just don't trust the structural integrity of the L scopes.Just my .02

Eye relief

They have constant eye relief. Nothing wrong with the other Zeiss scope lines though, I just mention the conquest line because it is priced similiarly to the Leupolds. Leupolds are good scopes, Zeiss is just better.

Zeiss is better in a few ways

The glass/coatings are better (Leupold is not bad by any means though). This is almost splitting hairs though.

The internal adjustments are better (Leupolds are a bit more sloppy than you might imagine). In hunting situations this doesn't really matter.

And then there is the eye relief thing.

Leupold scopes are darn good scopes. Again, Zeiss is simply better.

I used to cuss the people who mentioned Zeiss scopes as better than leupold.

Then I went to the shop and looked at a Zeiss, I know right away that they we're all RIGHT! Now I can't argue with anyone anymore. :D They are awesome scopes
