Well, anybody got one?
They've got to be the best non-custom rifle going. Slick actions, beautiful wood, and great metalwork.
Here's a couple of pics of my Sako Finnbear AIII, in 30-06.

Oh heck yes! I had a Sako Finnbear back in 1988, chambered in .270 Win. It grouped beautiful little clover leaf groups all day long, so long as I did my part. Unfortunately, the laminated stock cracked where the bolt closes, so I traded it in on a Weatherby Mark V in .257 Wea. Mag.

As far as I am still concerned, there is nothing wrong with Sako...great firearms! Nice pictures. Thanks for sharing!

My Grandfather has one that came in 7 Rem-Mag and it was good for one shot, then it wouldn't shoot straight. That was fine for hunting, but he eventually had it re-barreled in .338 Win-Mag. Not bad guns, as that was a rare slip-up I believe from what I've heard about them from others.

I'vee got an AIII model in 30-06 with the Mannlicher style stock. Good rifle, I put them in the same class as my 60's vintage Dumoulin (mostly used FN Actions). The wood is very well fitted and has good metalwork, I had to restore the wood on this one as it had a peeling varnish finish with numerous dings and scrapes.

probably not what you meant but it was made by sako...

I've got an old Sako AV in .30-06 as well. Took it on my very first hunting trip and with the help of a very good guide, harvested an 80 lb wild boar with it. The previous owner bought it in 1981 and it was basically a safe queen until he ran into some difficulties and had to put three Sakos up for sale (7mm Magnum, .270 Win, and .30-06). I liked the .30-06 the best and so I ended up "blooding" the 25-year-old rifle (although it was overkill on a pig that small). Wanna go for another pig early next year.

BTW, I like AmishFury's M39 as well. Got a couple of M39's myself, but they aren't Sakos (one VKT and one "B" Barrel).

As far as the hunting rifles go, I really like the look and the worksmanship. Mine shoots just over MOA with the Federal Classics, which is plenty accurate enough. Thanks for the pics, CH47gunner and browningguy.

Sakos

I have 2. My first, bought about 1966, is a 243 Win. Forrester. It wouldn't group until I had Tom Gilman glassbed it. Then it shot 3/8". Old now, wont do it anymore. Thinking about rebarreling it maybe. I've killed a lot of deer with it.
The grip cap on it shriveled up like a raisin about 10 years ago.
My second, bought about 1967, is a 7mm Mag. Finnbear. Out of the box 5/8" groups, still hunt with it. Killed 2 or 3 deer with it last year. (Was also hunting with a 7mm/08) It shoots about an inch now, sometimes less.
At the time I bought them, all my friends marveled at how slick the actions were.
Still slick and beautiful. Still love 'em.

Could'nt afford one, so I got a Tikka 300wsm instead. Just love it, but a Sako is in my future.

Thanks all,

Really nice thing about this rifle was I needed to do NO modifications to get it to shoot, the trigger is outstanding. The only mods I've done are to have the bolt jewelled and replaced the Redfield 3-9 scope with the Nikon Monarch 4-12X40AO scope.

browningguy - Very nice looking Mannlicher style rifle. I've got to refinish my stock also. At some point, the previous owner dripped solvent on it & marred it pretty good, in a couple of places.

AmishFury - Made in Finland, it's all good.

Having a rifle that is ready to go with no screwing around with it is great. I have had the same experience with my SSG. Take the rifle out of it's box, clean the barrel, mount and bore sight a good piece of glass, grab some good quality ammo, and then go shoot nice tight little groups.

I have a Sako 75 "Grey Wolf"...

That's laminated(grey/black) and stainless, topped with a Nikon Titanium scope. Love to bring it to the range for pre-deer season sighting in-the guy calling your shots just shakes his head as he tries to put all his push pins in the same hole! :D

I have a A3 in 7 mm mag. Nothing not to like with it.
great action and great wood, I have had it about 4 or 5 years now and for hunting it is the first one I think of taking.

Walkalong!
I love Manlicher stocks!
Is that a 3x9 compact Leupold?

Great rigs CH47gunner, browningguy & Walkalong! Thanks for the pics!

If I ever get my drooling under control, I might have to get me one like those! :)
