The U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management recently announced that they are planning to close portions of the Cleveland National Forest and adjoining BLM land to public shooting. This announcement comes on the heels of a temporary closure in the area last year.

On Saturday June 11, 2005, USFS and BLM will host an open house from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at the Oak Grove Community Center. Please attend the open house to let the government officials know that you want public shooting protected. Let them know that if they have to close this area to shooting, you want new opportunities to be created in order to compensate for the loss.

For more information about the closure and a map of the area under discussion visit http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/cleveland/recreation/shooting/index.shtml. If you can't attend the meeting this Saturday then contact USFS and BLM and let them know that public shooting opportunities should be a priority.
