I believe it was John Gibson that did a big interview with her a couple days ago on ABC. Man, that guy really went for the jugular, but I digress.
At one point he said,"Seventy eight percent ( or about that number) of Americans would like to see semi-autimatic assault weapons banned", then asked for her views. First, I don't believe his statistic is accurate, and feel she should have began her response questioning it,as well. She then waffled around about hunting and sportsmen and whatever, missing a great oportunity to rebuff him and make a good 2nd amendment case on national TV.She should have anticipated something along these lines and been better prepared for it IMO.
But what I'm specifically wondering is, where did he dredge up this percentage, and how for off is it ?( assuming it is,that is).

charles (aka Charlie) was his first name... I'll check on %s though I wouldn't discount looking at a Brady or Joyce Foundation funded studies

remember anytime people do surveys the results can easily be manipulated. i once did a phone survey where the person asked a question and i answered and he said "are you sure about that" when i answered different from what they wanted to hear. i no longer completely trust surveys after that incident.
they could have asked something like this for the survey "with the expiration of the gun control act of 1994 do you agree with military like semi-automatic assault weapons being able to be purchased with no regulations controlling them" then asking "would you agree with a ban on semi-automatic assault weapons"
the average person would be tricked into saying yes without understanding the question completely.

these are the tricks people use against us. you have to understand them to get past it.

I saw that interview on ABC. I thought she answered the question very well. He asked " 70% of Americans want a ban on semi-automatic assault weapons. Will you support that ban"? She answered directly and firmly, " No, I will not" and went on about what guns mean to people in Alaska and how she was a Life Member of the NRA.

So what poll or 'so called statistics' is this supposed to be?Never heard of this one before...and I have a sneaky hunch 'it isnt real at all'.

She was in "reasonable" mode,

unlike the "attack mode" that characterized her convention speech.

I am told--but how would I know--that her refusal to get edgy or to sound argumentative or to lose composure made Gibson look quite rude and agenda-driven, and that it ended up scoring points for her.

But, yes, I too would have preferred a more directly "corrective answer" on the AWB question.

I wish to assure you all..

...THAT I am not in the aforementioned 70% wanting to ban those "evil assault rifles". Matter of fact, might buy another AK.

That is, after I see how bad my place just got smashed up. Money might be tight for awhile.

DURING the "assault weapons ban" I purchased an AK-47, two AR-15's, a 75 rd. Romanian drum mag for the AK, high capacity mags for a Glock, high capacity mags for an AR, high capacity mags for an AK, an Uzi Mod 45 Carbine w/ folding stock, bayo lug, pistol grip, an Uzi Mod. 45 Micro Machine Pistol, and high capacity mags for the Uzis.

-- and we won't much mention the semi auto Garand, or the Butler Creek high cap mag for the Ruger 10/22.

AWB didn't work last time and the politicos know it.

I thought she did very well in defending law-abiding gun owners.

It would have been great if she'd pointed out that military-looking semi-automatics are just that: military-looking. But that would have taken a long time, and also opened up a new front the McCain campaign can't fight right now.

Funny, ever poll I've seen shows just the opposite.
Polls can be manipulated, just look at the Brady website.
Seventy eight of Americans think SUVs should be banned. What are your views?

She hit it out of the ballpark.. she said the laws would not effect those that already ignore the laws and that these laws only effect Law abiding citizens...She answered it right.

I know what Palin thinks about the issues. I'm not concerned about "finding out her views" on a MSM interview. I am concerned about her and McCain getting elected. I don't fear at all that she is some closet anti just because she didn't flip out and give a Ron Paul speech during an interview with some leftist who was trying to make her do exactly that. I, and we I think, know here true colors. I don't mind at all her saying what she feels she needs to say to make leftist media types looks like the jerks they are.

I had somebody call me one day to do a telephone poll. The second question they asked was " Do you support candidate A." I said yes, they asked if I was a strong supporter of candidate A. When I said I was they hung up.

My point is that by weeding out all of Candidate A's supporters before actually starting the survey I'm quite sure that their poll showed that most people didn't support Candidate A's policies.

Likewise you weed out all gun owners before you start asking about AWBs and I bet you can find 78 out of 100 people to say banning Assault Weapons is a great idea.

Gawd that was a long post

The interviews are available on ABCNews.com. I think Palin did a very clear knock down of the AWB and laws in general that affect law abiding citizens vs bad guys. It was interesting to me in that it was phrased in a fresh manner.

Polls can be easily manipulated. The public doesn't really doesn't understand technical issues.

The gun world gets all excited about the definition of 'assault' rifle but that doesn't matter to anyone except this small group. Military derivative guns that look EBR are the issue for those who judge on surface appearance.

A well done study found that hunters were more negative to 'assault' guns than hunting rifles as they judged their use as more to kill people as compared to sporting guns.

Since I know something about this - I think that part of the issue is the attribution that folks who buy EBRs are more prone to misuse them for violence than sporting guns. Few folks know of the equal efficacy of a AR vs. a Mini-14 Ranch Rifle (jokes about Ruger here).

Anyway, I like my AR! If, I have to use it, God forbid in some fashion against another person, I will be sure that my counsel has much expertise in the area of appearance based aggressive priming so has to short circuit such in court.

Since experience has been bandied about by everyone lately, is that surprising? Obama was challenged for experience over and over. What else is new?

And news is fair and balanced - sorry I don't live in that dimension. :D

I don't watch the interviews. My mind was made up the day Obama announced he was running for president. Same deal for Hillary. If one of them was the democratic candidate I am voting republican, no matter who became the nominee.

It's a no brainer considering the choice you have with the Democrats. Biden wrote the assualt weapons bill and is very proud of it.

Watched the interviews online last night. I was very pleased to here her clearly enunciate that a person willing to pull the trigger on their fellow man is not going to be stopped by an additional law. Maybe she could have expounded more- which is what I would have done, but hey, I tend to be a wordy guy anyway. But sometimes a brief, concise answer is the best thing.

I have no complaints about her response.

I think she gave a good answer to the assault weapon question, considering Charlie's confrontational and condescending attitude. She defended the 2nd Ammendment, talked about criminals not obeying laws anyway, and the fact that gun control laws only affect the law abiding.

Where on earth did Charlie get his stat that 70% of Americans favor banning semi-auto weapons? That is garbage! The reality is around 60% of Americans DO NOT favor more gun control, rather they favor strict enforcement of our current laws, which is where I'm at.

The 70% question was to manipulate people into thinking that Biden was right to write his assualt weapons bill. The mainstream Media is working hard to get Democrats elected and more gun controls on the books.

Gibsons is a Democrat shill and in no way represents fairness.
