Wandering around in the Sierras...
So there's the endless debate over varmint/deer/elk/zombie rifles & calibers...

so just for fun... but still on the serious side...

What combo do you think would be satisfactory for BF/Squatch defense?

Consider that it is bipedal, very fast with a 4-6' stride, usually 6-10' tall with weights estimated at 700-1000+ lbs and while it's usual habitat is thick wooded or brush areas, they have been seen in open areas and meadows as well...shots would probably be danger close within 50-100yds and closer...generally they are loners but there have been many reports of 2-3 being spotted and in some very rare and extreme instances groups ranging from 3-6+...

Keep in mind though that the larger groups usually only are reported after someone has either shot or shot at a single or pair of them... they seem to exact some revenge and increase their numbers and very actively come after you after that...so if you have to take a shot and it is successful you would possibly have to worry about an offensive or territorial group coming after you with fairly clear intentions.

Something that wouldn't break the bank, esp ammo wise...

also consider it a pack gun... so lightweight or not overly heavy would be ideal...

What would you choose?

I would choose to lay off the peyote.

Failing that, a Remington SP-10 loaded with slugs would do until I either got back to the city, or back to reality.

Well, in a panicked situation like that, after you regained your senses, you would want something that could throw alot of aimed lead in a short period of time and do it very reliably, I would have my SLR-95 or M1A, no questions asked.

.45-70 and LOTS of it.

Marlin GG probably.

In North America, if a .45-70 won't kill it, you should probably just consider running.

super soaker loaded with nair... they run screaming.

that or anything you'd feel confident hunting bear of the same size/weight.

super soaker loaded with hot wax tagged with ultraviolet marking dye.

follow up with a pack of tracking dogs and a gang of ladies from the local beauty salon to wax that sucker.

Why do you want to kill Bigfoot? What did he ever do to you? :)

I would tame him and make him roam my property looking for intruders and stray cats. He'd probably need one of those dog shock collars so he wouldn't wander off. If I ever had to put him down I'd probably use an AK.

marlin 1894 .44 mag, with a Smith and Wesson .44 mag wheel gun as a backup, if we're talking defense.
if we're talking about hunting these things offensively, something big with some nice optics on it, so you could reach out and touch them from a LONG way away.

Around here your usual elk gun or carry pistol is all you'd want. Anything specifically put together for Harry could later be considered 'premeditation'......

Skamania County Ordinance

Ordinance No. 69-01

Be it hereby ordained by the Board of County Commissioners of Skamania County:

Whereas, there is evidence to indicate the possible existence in Skamania County of a nocturnal primate mammal variously described as an ape-like creature or a sub-species of Homo Sapiens; and

Whereas, both legend and purported recent sightings and spoor support this possibility, and

Whereas, this creature is generally and commonly known as a "Sasquatch", "Yeti", "Bigfoot", or "Giant Hairy ape", and has resulted in an influx of scientific investigators as well as casual hunters, many armed with lethal weapons, and

Whereas, the absence of specific laws covering the taking of specimens encourages laxity in the use of firearms and other deadly devices and poses a clear and present threat to the safety and well-being of persons living or traveling within the boundaries of Skamania County as well as to the creatures themselves,

Therefore be it resolved that any premeditated, wilful and wanton slaying of such creature shall be deemed a felony punishable by a fine not to exceed Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000) and/or imprisonment in the county jail for a period not to exceed Five (5) years.

Be it further resolved that the situation existing constitutes an emergency and as such this ordinance is effective immediately.

ADOPTED this 1st day of April, 1969.

Board of Commissioners of Skamania County

They did reconsider later and lowered the fine:

The above ordinance was partially repealed and amended in 1984 by Ordinance 1984-2:

The ordinance was amended to make the crime a gross misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in the county jail and/or a $1000 fine.

The new ordinance also created a million-acre refuge within the County.

;)

1886 Winchester in .45-70 with a buckhorn sight and a saddlebag filled with ammo.
When hunting old legends of the west one must use the proper old west stopping rifle.
Back it up with a pair of 1873 SAA Colts in 45 Colt and an 1897 Winchester shotgun and its Sasquatch stomping time!

I will be going after him this hunting season in the Green Swamp, he is rumored to hang out there (he's known around here as the Greater Florida Skunk Ape). I will be toting my Puma '92 in .454 Cassull. It will be loaded with a 300gr. soft point first and then it will alternate between soft and hollow points. My .375 H&H will hang in the truck in case I need real firepower.

You think I'm joking don't you...

I'd prefer a 1oz 12ga sabot, considering that long range sightings seem non-existent.

Be aware however that DNA analysis of your trophy may send you up on manslaughter charges if said specimen was not a clear threat to your life :scrutiny:

If we are talking fantasy island I want an m-60 w/ unlimited ammo mounted in a Huey. Why stay on his turf? In reality I want my Ruger 77 in 308 and my MIM Colt 45 for anything that big.

if a .45-70 won't kill it, you should probably just consider running.
hahaha

I'll take my 91/30, if I cant get a clear shot, I can always bayonet him!

In all seriousness, I would take a saiga 308 or an M1a, both with iron sights or a red dot.

MINI GUN! like in the movie Predetor. EDIT: I think my new Romanian PSL - 54c 7.62x54r would be just fine!

I don't think my Grandpa was wrong... "There are very few problems a man can't fix with $700 dollars and a 30/06". That should be enough for ol' Sasquatch.

I'd go with a 180gr bonded pill for the '06 and a .44Mag double action sidearm. :D
