Great Topic

416 Rem Mag with 400 Grain Nosler Partitions and a 45 ACP on my hip.
I recall hearing that some state, Oregon or maybe Washington outlawed taking one. I think at least one needs to be taken to settle the debate and for it's scientific value. Anthropologists would go crazy.

These are silly threads, but OTOH they get you thinking about some important ballistic considerations.

The main difference between a sasquatch and a brown bear is the fact that the bigfoot is walking UPRIGHT. This changes the internal organ arrangement quite a bit, and also means that most shots will be penetrating less cross section than a shot on a bear of the same weight. I'd want to go with a magnum rifle, but with a lighter weight bullet with easy expansion. There will be no need to penetrate shoulders to get to heart and lungs, though if you use a delayed expansion round you may not get enough expansion before exit.

I grew up in the PNW and my older bros went to scout camp at Spirit Lake prior to the blowup, so this is a familiar legend. The stories usually relate to hearing a feral scream in the deep woods, and the creatures are said to be extremely careful about covering their tracks. I always heard almost all the prints were fakes because the real ones didn't leave any clear tracks. Also, they were said to launch attacks at night from cover of darkness and they could aim huge stones at a man's head and get rid of the body afterwards.

So basically, wear a helmet and have night vision equipment.

Carefully consider the history. NO ONE has reported surviving a contact with the afore mentioned critter. NO ONE!

This rules out most common calibers and weapons.

I think I'll stay out of the critters stomping grounds. If I must go in a Browning semi-auto in .338 Magnum seems indicated for fire power.

Who wonders how many people have disappeared in the Pacific North West and what they were packing at the time...:scrutiny:

What combo do you think would be satisfactory for BF/Squatch defense?

Primary: Silver 2006 Ford F250 Fx4
Secondary: Colt M1911 repro in .45 ACP to finish it off after I hit it.

The four rules apply no matter what the situation.

1. know your target and what's beyond it.

This is mostly true if you see 'something' in the woods... is it a bear, guy in a ghillie suit? Paintballer in a wookie costume?

OR is it something trying to get into your tent?

The ONE time I was awoken by a bear it was quiet, didn't make much noise till it started really trying to get INTO things. (Knocking over camp table with a loud crash). I still managed to get my glasses on and get outside with my gun--and still took time to figure out WHAT I was looking at and what was behind it before considering firing a shot. Would a bigfoot tear through your tent or unzip it?

Granted had I woke to a bear trying to get INTO my tent I may have reacted differently, but I still knew where the other tents and occupied cars were in relation to me.

So think of that... obstructed view from INSIDE a tent.. still want a big bore rifle or shotgun?

Probably a good idea to have a big bore handgun nearby. .357 Minimum. I'd choose the same one I sleep with, a .44 mag Vaquero loaded with 300 gr soft points.(It's what I have... though a short barreled 12 ga. shotgun would be a 2nd choice)

To me a rifle, even the short handling 1894 or '95 Marlins aren't as good so close in like that, compared to a shotgun full of slugs.

OK, I'd concede her might be a role the AK-style pistol/krinkov or thunder five fulfills.

As for a general defensive long arm? I still say shotgun.

Dr. Rob, methinks if someone is stomping around in the woods in a wookie suit trying to scare people, he deserves to get shot.
And if it goes to court, I don't think one would get convicted for it. Think about it as a reasonable response. I mean, look, there is a large scary beast that looks like Larry Correia out there... you shoot it. Any sane person would.

Sorry Larry... Just a good thing your bald, mate.

Here would be my choices for a long arm

Remington 7600 .308
Fal 7.62x51
Marlin guide gun 45-70 or .450 marlin
Remington 870 /Mossberg 590 12 gauge slugs or double ought
Saiga .308
Saiga 12

For pistols any revolver .44 and up

Hey no doubt George, just saying before you open a can of whup-ass (or a Congo barreled FAL) on the Blair Witch/Wookie/Werewolf, be sure you know your free fire zones.

I've skinned out of a tent with handgun to scare off a bear. I had friends surf kayaking in Alaska empty a shotgun through the side of their tent at a bear trying to get in.

We also covered the 'what would you do' of you saw a 'yeti, bigfoot, etc. question. Guys, seriously... I'd want a good quality cameraman with the proper film around and ready to shoot. The gun(s) would just be for back-up.

ya, lay off the lsd. lol jk :neener:

i would want one of those .458 winchester mag, garands. that would allow up to 200 yards of distance with a LOT of stopping power.

if that wasnt enough hed taste the "12 guage rifle from hell". remember that thread? yeeeeeeaahh!!! das what im talkin bout:evil:

With the quality of CGI and makeup/costumes today, video footage of the thing would be almost worthless. The whole debate won't be settled until there is a carcass. Either found dead, or brought back. And you can bet my first call would be to a very wealthy scientist or museum.

Beowulf Killed Grendel, A troll of similar dimension to the afore mentioned Sasquatch. I'll use my Beo with DE.50 to back it up! I can see no other critter that warrants such calibers but I own Both so what the hell!:D
