just going to build it in 308, run some 168 smk or a-max over varget in federal brass and be happy! I will probably use an er shaw stainless varmint barrel coated in black

I looked into that but the target action is single shot only and I prefer a repeater. I'm no machinist so cutting a magazine well and converting it to dbm is not in the books either. I looked for a used savage at the local gun store today but to no avail. They said a stevens will run me 299 in 308 so thats not too bad. My dad gave me a leupold vx2 also SWEET! He said since I built him a kick donkey ar and a 204 I earned it. So I saved a whopping $350 from what I was going to spend! That's a lot of loading components. Yay ME!

I have both the 260 and the 6.5 creedmoor. The quality of creedmoor ammo from hornady and price are way better than the offering for the 260 out there. They both shoot great. For the reloading crowd, obviously that point is mute. They both are extremely accurate cartridges. I love them both. What about a bolt gun in 6.5 grendel????? You can reload that to 260 velocities with 20% less powder. Obviously this is going to take a custom barrel to be able to seat the bullets on the long side rather than ar platform lenghts. Its an efficient little bugger.

Standard .260 load = 43.0 x .80 = 34.4 (over fill Grendel case) You might push a 95 grain bullet in the Grendel as fast as a 140 grain bullet in the .260.

The Grendel is a good cartridge but is designed for the ar15 platform. It does not have the case capacity to compare to a 6.5 C, 6.5 L, or .260 Rem in a bolt gun.

You don't get the accu-trigger with Stevens. Big minus in my book.

Savage has been changing magazine design (center-feed vs. staggered, box, etc). Check and see what the Stevens is set up for.

65nut,

You can do the same custom work to the .260 as the Grendel.

I do agree the Grendel is a good round as I have one chambered in AR15, In a bolt gun I would go with a minimum of 6.5 x 47L for my personal preference.

For the OP I went the Stevens 200 route and put a Lothar Walther drop in .260 Barrel and love it.

Any 6.5 is righteous. The Swede is as good as any, and in Lapua brand and a bolt gun is probably better than the other factory ammo, and is well over 100 years old.
