Greetings,

Long story made short: I ended up with a Savage 110 30-06 with the Simmons scope on it (3x9x40). This is the one that sells at Walmart for about 500$.

I doubt this scope (and the rings that it comes with will support the recoil of the 30-06. Anyone else bought that gun with this scope?

Thank you

haven't bought one, but sell them a plenty...

Scrap that scope, rings and the bases and get yourself 'better' quality stuff...

Steel rings and bases are best in many opinions.

The scope will last a while, or maybe for ever but a better one would do you better.

I fully agree with UM, great rifle...poor quality scope and rings, while it may be an unusual good one, I would invest in a Bushnell or preferably a Nikon, Zeiss, Swaro, et cetera. :)

i have a .243 and the scope and rings are fine after about 200 rounds at 100 yards i can still shoot at bottle cap and hit it easily its nicer then i thought too.

shoot about 50 rds through and see how it holds. if it works, why make and economical choice an expensive upgrade needlessly.

I am all for good glass but if your less expensive scope will hold zero why drop the nickel for something you use a few times a year.

Number 3 Son has one. So far he has put a number of 100's of rounds through it and it still works great. Try it and if it does not work, replace it. If it is not broke don't fix it. I cannot afford to replace things just because.

I may have gotten lucky but I picked one up in 270 several years ago because I was working on my other deer rifle and I really wanted to try the accutrigger.
I sighted it in very quickly. I have shot a lot of test rounds through it in the off season but I shot for groups not POI. So I have never moved the turrets. Every year since I bought it I grab two rounds of my hunting ammo and go check. It has always been dead on so far. Factory cheap Simmons scope, mount and rings work for me.
I was going to make it a project receiver but it works so well it is my number one hunting rifle.

i am no fan of simmons scopes at all...

#1 daughter ended up w/ a savage package gun in 300 wsm w/ this scope on it. we run reduced loads through the gun, but the scope/rifle have logged about 750 rounds and we haven't had a failure, yet.

the scope is dark, the click adjustments are unreliable, but once we got it set, it has held zero. we will finish the year out w/ the simmons, and then re-scope next year.

so, while i think the simmons scope is terrible, i need to give credit where it is due, and that is that so far the simmons has held together and will actually go hunting on saturday.

Most scopes will hold a zero once set. If of course the scope had to be built on a good day and the rifle not knocked around. Set the variable to one fix power say 4X or 6X and leave it . Then they seem to do well.

Still I was taught that the scope should cost as much as the rifle. (maybe twice as much?)

Yes do get a better scope when you can. I have a Savage 110 in 30-06 with an inexpensive Barska scope that has held it's zero and worked well for about 200 rounds. This rifle is only shot at the range not banged around etc. I don't intend to change the scope soon but if I was about to go on a big hunting trip that was costing me money I'd spring for a good scope today.
