I'm looking into the savage 110 synthetic stock package (Simmons 8-point 3-9X40 scope) in 30 06 right now. Anything anyone can tell me about this rifle/scope/combo? What to expect? Alternative choices in similar price range (The price is 360.00 new).

Thanks.

in terms of value, bang for the buck, this is an excellent choice. Should be very accurate right out of the box. Check if it has accu-trigger, nice option.

Personally... I wouldn't get the scope package because I see no point in spending extra money for a scope I'm going to want to upgrade from after about 5 shots anyway.

The Savage rifles enjoy a fine reputation though.

I have that very rifle... .30-06 with the packaged Simmons scope. I've had it about 3 years, and like it. About a year ago I replaced the black synthetic stock with camo synthetic. The Simmons scope is decent, but I've been kicking around the idea of replacing it.

I owned a a synthetic stock savage 30'06 for about 2 years. Stove bolt tough! You will not be dissapointed. Unless you are recoil shy. They do kick a little. But nowhere near painful. I would, however, reccomend getting a limbsaver recoil pad, and your own good scope & toss the simmons scope in the trash. The ONLY 2 riflescopes I have ever had fail me was a Simmons 3-9X32 and a fixed 4X Tasco. The $180 Leupolds at wallyworld is money well spent! For an inexpensive scope, I have allways ahd good luck with Bushenell. Just my .02

Grant48- That is a sweet looking setup. What stock did you put on it? I have the 300 win mag with the grey stock, and need to upgrade. Does it have metal pillars? Thanks!!!

I had one and loved it. Unfortunately, I had to sell it (needed money to replace my houses AC). I am definitely thinking of buying another when I have the extra money.

The stock is made by Ram-Line. I got it at Cabelas, it was about $80 if I remember correctly.

I'm not sure, but it appears to be totally synthetic, I didnt notice any metal anywhere on the stock.

Although the stock said it is for Savage Model 110, it wasnt a simple drop in. Apparently at the time I bought the stock, the molds had not yet been changed to accomodate Savages with Accutrigger. I had to use a Dremel to shave the inside of the stock a little bit to get perfect fitment. It was very easy to do.

I'd like a mod 10 better than a 110, but since it is 30.06 , then that is in all guestimates number 1 or 2, best package rifle to buy/ the scope is nothing special, but will work just fine. the 30.06? nuff said. And since it is Savage, it will be accurate, and you can surely add plenty of aftermarket stuff for it, if you feel froggy. Only thing better would be a howa 1500 package.
