I have an older savage 111 .338 win mag that I have had for quite some time. It has a synthetic stock, but it feels like an awkward hunk of plastic. I would like to switch it to something more comfortable to use. The bell & carlson costs more than I paid for the gun, and I have heard very bad reviews about the hogue. Any suggestions?

Boyd's won't break the bank, Richard's microfit if you wanna put some work in, and mdt chassis.....

I've been through a lot of Savage stocks over the years, and IMO the B&C is probably the best cheap option; heavy but decent shell with an aluminum bedding block. You can get a Boyd, but it won't be much cheaper than the B&C - especially if you add the pillar option. I am not partial to the Hogue at all.

Boyds has some nice stuff, but usually when I'm using this rifle its wet and nasty so I think a synthetic would be the way to go.
Boyds uses stabilized laminates I've had my guns in boyds stocks out in the Hilo rain, and have not had an issue.

I've used quite a few Bell and Carlson stocks and they are nice stocks especially for the cost.

Depending on what you're looking for there is also the choate ultimate..... something or other..... That gets good reviews I've never had opportunity to use one tho.

I'm probably going to go with the boys @1 on my Xbolt build like @horsey300 was suggesting.
