Just got one in a trade, never heard of one before. Seems to be in good shape functions well and handles ok. Hard to find much out about these rifles. Did search on THR and found a little bit. Thanks ya'll in advance. Also did google search.

Built back in the '70's. An inexpensive alternative to the Remington M760.
The bulk of the 170's were in .30/30.
Due to the tublular magazine, you still can't use pointed bullets, but no big deal.

The .35Rem is more desirable than the .30/30 due to lower numbers of units produced.
However, they aren't collectable guns, but are decent shooters.
Not as refined as the Remingtons, but a lot of venision has been put on the table with them.

Google is your friend.

The 170 is a budget pump gun. 35 Rem is an excellent deer, bear cartridge.

I bought one in like-new condition at an auction in PA a few years ago, wanted it because it was unusual in .35 cal. A friend recommened I pass on it, but I was the high bidder at $340. I should have listened to my friend and Googled first.

Gun looked like it had never been used, and when I loaded it and chambered one, the next round left the mag also and hung up. Did this every time, and surprised me because it could not have been used much. Took it to the gunsmith and he said: "You know, there is a reason they didn't sell many of these." Only then did I do the Google search, too late.
