savage 24v-A mounting scope?

It's an over under 222/2o gauge. I want to mount a scope for fox hunting but can't figure out how to remove the rear sight. It is drilled and tapped for bases. I can see one hole and I'm assuming the other is under the sight. here's a pic. I'm just trying to not damage it. Any idea on how to do it? Older guns scare me.

it looks and feels great. I'd love to make it my upstate predator gun if the 222 groups well.

You need a Weaver #74 base:

Unscrew the rear sight base and replace it with the Weaver.

If removing the one visible screw doesn't let you remove the base, replace the visible screw and drive the rear sight out with a brass punch from left to right.

thanks. Base is on the way. Popped out the sight. Turns out theres nothing under it. Must be a three hole base. My old vx1 should sit nicely on there.
