I'm trying to decide between a Savage 16 weather warrior stainless vs the Savage 11 FCNS. Any thoughts on pros and cons? I hunt Northern Vermont primarily. Thanks.

I hunt with a 116 stainless in 338 Win Mag. I had the rifle bead-blasted to dull the finish and have been very happy with it over the years.

You'll spend less money on the 11. You'll spend more time and oil preventing and removing corrosion - it's a blued steel gun vs stainless gun choice, basically. Otherwise, it's the same action, same trigger, same stocks are usable on them, etc.

I have owned half a dozen Savages, all have been great, but given the option I would spend the extra on stainless. I have an 11 270 WSM in addition to my 110s and it is fantastic.
The 260 is a great little cartrage, often ranked amongst the very best deer cartrages along side such great company as the 7x57, 6.5x55 and 7mm-08, but I do recommend handloading if you decide to join the 6.5mm clan. We are a rare breed and factory ammo is not kind to us. Get some 120gr Ballistic tips, and 140gr SGK/SSTs and buy RL19/RL22 in bulk

I have one of the stainless rifles your listed. The are parts that are not stainless. The magazine, for instance, is not. I really have no trouble keeping the exterior of a rifle rust-free. Its the bits inside that require removing the stock that I most want to be stainless. Well, that, and the bore.
Little known fact is that stainless barrels often wear ever so slightly faster than plain ol' blued ones. Stainless will rust, too. It's just less likely.
I vote blued and a can of INOX MX3 lube or just paste wax.

I have a Savage 11 FHNS in 7mmWSM that I acquired about 2 years ago. I really like that rifle! The quality of the bluing is good, and an occasional wipe with oil is all it needs to keep it looking new. It also shoots 0.5moa @100yds. regularly, with the right ammo. I decided to re-stock it with a B&C tactical stock, which required a couple of small parts (magazine retainer clip and trigger guard); I called Savage Customer Service and the parts were shipped to me at no charge - gotta like that, too!

Thanks for the replies. I'm saving for a spring purchase. I remain undecided though I'm leaning toward stainless for the inevitable days of precip. I believe handloading is in the future to get the most out of this rifle.
