It depends on what you are looking for or how you are planning on using the rifle. If you want a single shot, then get the Encore. If you want a bolt action with a magazine, then get the Savage.

I would opt for the Savage. I have heard many mixed things about the accuracy of the break open rifles, but the Savages on this forum almost seem infallible. I own a Savage (more to come soon) and it is very accurate, plus the magazine holds several shots, whereas the break opens is only one and if you are fumbling for that second shot you might be out of luck.

Thanks for the input gentlemen,i already own a weather warrior in .223 with accustock and i am very happy with it to say the least,i was considering a thompson as well, a friend of mine shoots one hence the debate,i cant see the need for two .223s at the moment so i think after what i am hearing i will stick to my Savage..

Then invite your friend to a friendly range trip-shoot off. Shoot a couple 5 shot groups and see which party starts with the excuses

Good call. I own and like the Encore. But the probability of an out-of-the-box Encore outshooting an out-of-the-box bolt action Savage is pretty slim.

The Savage line is good enough that they don't mind selling a second line Stevens rifle line which is a very good rifle itself. IMHO TC lives off their reputation from the TC Contender, and Carbine their other products are good but not that much of an improvement of the old single shot. They just built the Encore so they could cater to the Magnumaholics.
Keep that Weather Warrior and next one you need think about bargin Stevens 200.

I would opt for the Savage for sure. The encore just sits in the safe.

You won't hate yourself in the morning with the Savage...

Good idea i will have to sort that one out next time i see him, if it happens i will post the outcome, cheers.

I like my Encore Pro Hunter. A LOT! I've got the muzzleloader, .300 Mag, and a .25-06. My old man has the Endeaver muzzloader, 7mm Mag, and .22 Mag. I plan on buying at least 2 more barrels for mine.

A lot of people that have accuracy trouble have hinge pins that are not as tight fitting as they should be. I know a lot of people who say that they can push their hinge pin out by hand using a nut driver or something like that. I can't say the same thing about mine. My hinge pin won't come out or go back in without a hammer and a punch. It's tight! That could be why mine tends to shoot better than others. I don't know for certain though. Either way, I'm not complaining and I enjoy mine. Actually have plans today to head to the range and make sure my muzzleloader is still zeroed. Going on a feral hog hunt next month and plan on using the muzzleloader again.
