"...Wikipedia credits Hodgdon..." Hi. Wikipedia allows anybody with Internet access to post there. Mind you, Hodgdon's site does give the bullet diameter as .311". They need a slap. Sent them one. Gently, of course. Couple more beers and I wouldn't be so gentle. snicker.
Pictures usually don't copy well. Come out too big usually.

If memory serves; the 1893 Savage was the first to be chambered in 303 Savage and was .311 dia. Savage chambered the 1899 303 using a .308 bore. Seems to me that very few of the 1893 model were built in 303, sort of a test run just prior to stopping production of the '93 and starting the 1899.
I'm probably confused on this, as I said its from memory and it don't work so pretty good no more!!!!

RC Model, I own a 308 Model 99F. It would work, but extractor and spool would likely to need change. Mine a brass cartridge counter, and has the safety on the lever handle. I could very well be a different steel, as the 303 Savage is an older cartridge. My grandfather had one in that caliber somewhere in the late 1920s. Not sure if the 308 chamber would clean up the 303 orginal. I would leave it as it was, a 303 Savage

303

I believe I read an article about 311 dia bullets in 303 savage,w/308 bore and it was deliberate.Pressures have to be kept down,I believe it was a 220 round nose.
You have a fine rifle,I've been looking for one,only 99 I would want,keep it origional.There is a savage 99 in 25-35 at Grundman's in Rio Dell Ca.
