I have a new Savage A22 in .22 LR. Apart from the strange alignment of the sights and buttstock, I like it a lot.

Question: can this gun be dry-fired without snap caps? It doesn't hold open after the last round, so I would have to count shots every time I use it in order to avoid dry-firing it when empty.

If you can take it apart and examine the firing pin and bolt you should be able to tell if the firing pin can reach the breach face or not. Some 22’s if dry fired will beat up the breach face to the point it can deform the chamber. Some have a stop on the striker that prevents it from going far enough to hit the breach face.

I am liking this gun. I have a rifle that can't be scoped. I have another rifle that took a ton of work before it had an acceptable trigger and the ability to handle hypersonic rounds. Then I got the Savage, which seems to have no real weaknesses.

The sights fell off the first time I shot it. I guess I could mention that.
