I saw this, Savage A22 Target Thumbhole, at my LGS yesterday. I googled it and there were no reviews, that I could find. I also searched the archives here on THR and found no information. This .22 looks pretty interesting and I was curious about its accuracy. Does anybody have any first hand experience shooting this rifle? Thanking you in advance for your response.

I know I've heard at least one member here talk about his A22 in passing. The thumbhole version simply sports a different stock, and heavier barrel.
Accuracy should be pretty good, I'm actually interested in one since I don't have a semi .22 anymore.

LoonWulf,

Thanks for the response. I’ve been to the Savage website and the heavy fluted barrel is what interests me. I would think it would be capable of good accuracy as well. Hopefully someone on THR has some experience shooting one of these that may benefit both of us!

I can’t speak to the A22 but I have 3 different Savage .22 rifles; a Model 7 semi-auto, Cub T single-shot bolt action thumbhole (youth model), and Rascal single-shot bolt action youth. Despite the 70 years difference in manufacturing dates and 3 different barrel profiles from long sporter to ultralight 16” they all shoot extremely well for sport class rifles.

I saw some reviews in Rimfire Central, Some shot very well, some not. Many had magazine issues and fit issues. It seems if you like to tinker you can get them to shoot well and not jam. If you are lucky it will be good out of the box. If not they are fixable. CZ 512's are pretty good but cost more.

I appreciate the info. I’ll look into the Rimfire Central site and see what I can find. CZ could be a great alternative, I never really considered that until now. Thanks for the suggestion.

I believe the jamming issue was magazine related, needing only a simple spring adjustment.
Thanks for the insight regarding the magazine. It might be worth tinkering with.
