I recently picked up a plain jane savage a22 in 22lr from a friend who had bought it for no apparent reason and let it sit around for a couple months. Based on my luck with savage rifles I decided it was worth glassing up and testing the accuracy on. So I slapped my Bushnell nitro 2.5-10 FFP on it and headed to my normal spot. The target shown is listed as 35 yards but after ranging it out it is a little closer to 40 but this is what mine can do with varying ammo off a rickety fold out table.

Its seemed to like the Aguila standard velocity the most and the federal bulk pack 36 gr hollow points the least. All of these are at least 5 shot groups, some more. But with the right circumstance good trigger pulls and not too much wobbling this thing can produce 1 ragged hole groups at that distance which I am quite happy with for a 175 dollar gun. Not the best shooting I have ever done but there are some examples of what is possible.

My overall thoughts on the a22 is that for an adult who is not out to customize their rifle and just want something out of the box, I would take this over a 10/22.
-The mag is similar in design although a bit harder to load though still manageable.
-The plastic stock is surprisingly stiff for such an inexpensive rifle and i find it to be quite serviceable. It is also a more appropriate length for an average sized male compared to most rimfires.
-The trigger is of the accutrigger function which I am also a large fan of and have a good deal of experience with.
-This example in particular is more accurate than my 10/22, your mileage may vary but I am also confident this a22 is more accurate than what i display here due to the conditions under which I was testing it.
-There are 25 round butler creek magazines for those who want to have more than 10. (Me)

All in all this is turned into not my lightest 22 and also not the most accurate (I own a cz :) ), but it is by far the most comfortable to shoot and i feel the best behind it. All in all i would highly recommend this to anyone in search of a semi auto 22 that is not quite enamored with the 10/22 craze and being the marlin 60 is not quite as common on the shelves as it once was.

I only compare it to the 10/22 because that is rightfully the rifle by which all other semi auto 22s should be compared against due to its economy, versatility and effectiveness. Definitely not trying to be a downer on those who invest into them.
