So it's my understanding that the thin blade that protrudes in front of the trigger must be depressed in order for the gun to fire. Apparently this is for safety when using a very light trigger. Well, mine doesn't work! if you just pull the trigger from the sides without depressing the other blade the thing still fires. Is it broken??? And if it doesn't do anything then why is it there?

That does indicate a problem IMO. Both of my savages with the accutriggers work the way you expected it to work. One is a 114 (or is it 116?.. I forget) .30-06 and the other is a mkII .22lr.

Yes, that's not normal. It should click and you have to recock the bolt, but it shouldn't actually fire.

Say what?

It should not click, and you should not have to re-cock the bolt.

If it "clicks", and the FP falls, it will most surely fire.

The trigger blade works just about like a Glock trigger safety.
The blade prevents the trigger from moving and releasing the sear unless the blade is depressed first.

On both of mine (entirely unmodified or even adjusted), if I pull the trigger without pulling the blade it does click but the FP does not fall. I've tested this at the range with live ammo.

I've noticed that the rifle will sound like it fires when the trigger is pulled, but the travel of the firing pin is interrupted unless the center blade on the trigger is pulled along with the main body of the trigger. When this happens, it does necessitate the reset of the mainspring to fire again.

Keep in mind, this is from messing around with the in-store, outside-of-the-gun displays rather than owning an accutrigger.

It acts as a automatic safety device if the very light trigger of the system is accidentally tripped without pulling the trigger. You hear the click, the gun is basically uncocked, but the firing pin does not fall.

My time behind Accutriggers is limited, but the criticisms I've seen of them while researching my next purchase include something similar to what you are talking about. If you pull the trigger from an "incorrect" angle, the rifle will not fire, and you will need to reset the bolt and try again.

Or at least, so I've read.

The action "safes" by design if you pull the trigger without depressing the blade. It will not fire when this happens and you will have to lift and drop the bolt to reset it.

Most of these guys are correct. If you pull on the trigger shoe without pulling the blade the trigger will click as the firing pin is released against the "safety sear" for lack of a better term. The bolt handle will have to be lifted to reset the pin and fire the gun. A lot of gun shops have an accu-trigger on a display stand that you can watch how all this works on. Ask at your local shop. A lot of them keep them put away somewhere.

Savage Accutrigger

Visionary, does it literally "fire" or just release the striker? In the scenario you cited the sear tail will be released but will be "captured" by the trigger saftey thus not allowing the striker to travel fully forward to impact primer.

I think the other guys pretty much covered this and they were able to explain it a lot better than I was, but this isn't correct. If you pull on the trigger without the trigger safety pulled it does click and drop the hammer so to speak, but it doesn't drop the firing pin. You have to recock it before you can shoot.
