A friend of mine has the Axis II (.308) and I was looking it over. Kind of a cheapo stock and so-so Weaver scope, but has the Accutrigger and he claims that it's a tack driver.

Not bad for an entry-level hunting rifle, I suppose. I would imagine that you could upgrade the optic and stock, but that would probably take it out of the "budget" concept.

Any positive/negative experiences with this particular rifle?

I bought a 7-mm08 used a little while back, and my biggest complaint would be that it's not short action..A lot of people don't like the range of bolt lift.I am well pleased by the accuracy, even with the flimsy stock..It is what it is for the price, like most modern budget rifles.

The Axis rifles can be customized, but that sorta defeats the purpose of a budget rifle. You can buy a wooden stock from Boyds and there are aftermarket triggers from Timney.

You don't read very well. The Axis II comes with accutrigger, so replacing the trigger isn't needed.

Savages are fun because you can DIY and upgrade parts when budget allows. They are the best value in a bolt action. The Axis action isn't nearly as nice as the Savage/Stevens 200, but they are able to be worked on versus other budget rifles from Remington.

I'm well aware the Axis II comes with an accutrigger. Many people dislike it and would rather have a Timney. The plastic stock is also perfectly useable but some people want to change it as well. Sorry for answering the OP's question.

great guns, I own 2-223rem. mine came with a bushnell scope I junked and topped with 4-12-44 vortex, burris steel rings, sitting bipod. its a beast of gun for the money. for $100 I might throw a boyds stock on it.

I still haven't bothered to do the trigger pull mod.

Doesn't need it:

That little hole one square up into the black is three rounds. It measures .14" The one below it is the first group I fired with that scope on it, with handloads I made for another gun. Not too shabby for a stock 'cheap' gun.
