Savage Bolt Gun Question

Just started shooting rifles a bit more than 3 years ago. First was a Savage MKII 22LR. I then started working PT at a large outdoor range and worked most of that first year on the 300yd range and soon after my first center fire was a used Savage Axis 223 then a few months later came a Model 10 in 223. That same winter I shot it in a winter bench league at our range. As a newb I finished 15th out of 20. From there I was able to acquire a Savage Model 11 barreled action that was going to be barreled into a 6mm BR Norma.. that got sidetracked by a never fired Savage Model 12 26" 223 Varmint barrel I was able to pick up for $100.00. This winter will not be my second season shooting this rifle. No it is not a Defiance Action with a Bartlein barrel but out to 200 yds I can keep up with them.

BTW Still looking for another to build that bench gun.

It's an indirect operation - after removing the firing pin assembly from the bolt body, you first set the firing pin protrusion to .035" (adjusting the front collar on firing pin assembly) and then set the spring length on the firing pin to 2.6" (long action) or 1.9" (short action) by adjusting the rear retainer collar on the firing pin assembly.
The new ones are completely unadjustable, part of why I'm not a huge fan.

Those little springs are also not horribly confidence inspiring. They have and do work fine tho.

Based on the cartridge head/bolt face, I have the new one.
I dont think the bolt heads LOOK much different between the ones with the adjustable firing pin assemblies and these new ones (ive had 4 savages and this is the first I've seen with the Axis style firing pin assembly).
The first gen 110s had a different bolt head, and the CRFs had a different bolt head, but the others are all similar.

Might pop yours apart and see, if its adjustable the you can reduce the tension as suggested and get a but better feel on bolt lift. There are also bearings and spaces to accomplish much the same thing, but also reduce friction.
