I have a short action Savage centerfeed rifle with a blind magazine. What stock and bottom metal do I need to convert it to detachable magazines?

I assume you probably have a M10 if it has a blind box,and is a true short action,so I assume you would just go to Boyds site,or something similar, and see what you can find. I would look on eBay for the stuff to make it a removable clip.I had a 111in 25-06 once with a metal pan,and removable clip,so I would say one from an 11 would work, but expect to pay dearly for it.The stock should be fairly reasonable though.

Which type of bolt release do you have? Top or Bottom

If you are wanting factory bottom metal, you will need the serial# of a rifle that has dbm from the factory if you want to order it off Savage's website. Depending on what you have,I may be able to help you out with that. All of mine are Top bolt release actions.

Still no answer as to if simply going to a stock for a detachable magazine rifle will allow me to use them on my center feed action.

Below is a link to Savage's website where you can order parts. You need to input the serial number of the rifle, but it will only show you the part numbers for the components that the rifle came with. To find parts listing for other models, you have to be creative and plug in numbers.

With a starting point of a number for similar rifle, through trial and error I found that rifle H227413 is a short action detachable mag rifle, and you can then get the part numbers for the bottom metal components and order them.

If the blind mag is a centerfeed, then putting it into a DBM stock with the proper bottom metal will work. You can buy the separate parts from Savage, but the cost new will add up. Buying a complete stock and bottom metal from someone upgrading their rifle would cost alot less. You might find such a set up on ebay or ebay or the classified site of something like "snipershide", where guys sometimes get a factory rifle just for the action and sell off the components. If I had to get it new or without the hassle, I'd buy the bottom metal from Savage, and put it into a Boyd's stock.

Savage DBM

Here is a link to another forum discussion regarding making a blind mag bottom fed. The internet as usual, has a the info out there, just need to know what to look for. Search for terms such as DBM (detachable bottom mag) and bottom metal. I was looking in to this option for the Model 11 Hog Hunter. This should get you in the right direction as to what to search for on the internet. It even list part numbers, which you should be able to verify. Good luck and let us know how it goes. There are others out there, like you, that want to do the same conversion, so try to keep the thread updated.
