Savage rifles don't seem to get as much press as Remington or the other big boys, but a lot of folks say that they're a great bargain and quite accurate out of the box. Any positives/negatives about Savage?

In my opinion, their new AccuTrigger is about the best commercial trigger on the market. Love mine.

I recently purchased a Savage 10FP(LE2B) as my first boltgun since a .22 I had as a kid.

I now have 90 rnds thru it. Today I shot it for the 3rd time (100yds) and got mostly just-sub-MOA with it. One horrible group at about 2.5" (wasn't just a flyer either lol):uhoh: , but also one 5 shot 1/2" group. Two of the appx MOA groups had a 'subgroup' of 3 rnds cloverleafing at about 3/8-1/2".

This was shooting off a bench with a bipod on a folded towel and a Loopy 3-10 LRM3. I don't have any bags. My ammo today was Georgia Arms 168gr SMK canned heat  , but I got similar and more consistently better results from 168gr FGM.

The accutrigger is really nice. I don't know much about precision rifle triggers, but I have a hard time imagining it getting better than this.

Oh, one other thing to mention...

One of the scope base holes is just a bit off. However, if I tighten the base all the way down, it'll freeze the bolt :( . So, I have 3 tight screws and one sorta tight screw that I hope I don't lose. I don't see it as a huge problem since I'm using a 1pc base, but...

Eventually I'll take it to a smith and have it fixed, but I wanna get it all doped out 1st so if it needs bedding or something else I can have it done at the same time.

Apparently this is fairly common in productions guns, but I'd rather be on the other side of the statistic.

Savage makes a fine rifle for the money. I've got a 10FP without the Accu-Trigger. Box stock, makes ragged one hole groups at 100 yards with 69 gr. Match Kings. The Accu-Trigger is great for a rifle that costs on average $200-300 less than Big Green or Winchester/USRAC (depending on model, of course).

My next bolt gun will be a 110FP with the Accu-Trigger and a McMillian stock.

Sounds like that screw is just a tad too long. Try grinding off one or two threads and I'll bet it will tighten without binding the bolt.

Bought a 112 in 338 Win Mag used. The previous owner had smoothed up the trigger (made prior to accu-trigger) which breaks crisply @ 4.5# (not a target trigger but fine for hunting). This rifle groups sub-moa w/225 gr. Hornady bullets @ 2800 + fps. May not be the best looking rifle on the line but will hold its own in the accuracy dept. w/most.

hps

Screws are all the same size and the tension happens before its fully tight. The scope base ends up torquing the action just enough to lock it up.

love my 10FP in .308!! :)

Needed a new stock though (it would be awsome if they sold just a barreled action, even if it was only $50 cheaper...)

only at 50 yards, but it was my first time out with the rifle, and it is the furthest the indoor range goes out to:

I just traded a Mini 14 for a Savage Scout in 7-08 with a Burris 2 3/4X scope. I think this thing may replace my walking deer rifle (goodbye Marlin). Even with the low power scope, I can put 4 shots into a 6" pie plate at 100 yards unsupported. I really am impressed.

Have a 10FP LE2B also (bought recently still unscoped). The AccuTrigger is very nice in adjustment. Out of the bax the gun was a tough over 3#. cranked down with the tool I'm now down to 1¾#. Very easy. Overtravel was already dialed down when received. Only thing I don't like about it is the Glock-ish feel to it.

Something over a year ago ....... won a 99C (lever action) in .243 thru a gun raffle.

Scoped it, and man ... is that a sweet rifle .... no fancy trigger - just std but pretty acceptable .... may yet not bother to polish it. Prior to that, had never realized just how good a Savage can be out' the box. :)

I recently sold my Savage 110 .30-06 so that I could buy my new 10FP in .308. That 110 could easily put 4 shots into an inch with good ammo, if I did my part. I am finally going to take my new 10FP out to the range on Saturday, so I'll post a range report and pics.

Savage guns get put down a bit because of the triggers and the stocks. Neither of my Savages had/has the new accutrigger, but it's fairly simple to adjust the standard trigger and as I did with my 110, I lightened the trigger on my 10FP so that now it feels great. The new accutrigger is an even greater improvement.

The stocks on Savage rifles are generally not that great, but you can get a good replacement for $100 or less (I have a B&C Duramaxx on mine). Unless you decide to buy a McMillan, you can replace the stock on your Savage rifle and still spend less than a new Remchester.

In my opinion, Savage rifles are the best buy for the money. They shoot at least as well, if not better, than similar guns costing hundreds more. I definitely wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

My Savage 93GL .22 Magnum is a nice rifle. Accurate, nice looking, but the trigger sucks. It's the one thing that needs improvement, IMO.
