Savage LEA2 .308 20 or 26inch barrell

I buying a savage .308 LEA2 and am trying to figure out if there is any benefit or accuracy improvement in the 26 inch over the 20 inch bull barrell. Please help if you can. I am trying to build a super accurate rifle

20" might be more accurate because it will be stiffer. the 26" will get better velocity.

if you are looking for long range, go w/ the 26". if you are after short range, 20".

The 20 inch is considered a Urban shooting situation length. While the 26 inch is more of a long distance shooter to say 1000 yards. If your planning to shoot the gun at a max range of 700 maybe 800 yards the 20 inch will work fine. I your planning on shooting over 800 yards go with a 26 inch. My Custom .308 Remington Sniper rifles have 26 inch Hart barrels on them.
I have shot with guys that were shooting 20 inch barreled guns and they were driving tacks clear out to 800 yards and better. It is more the quality of the barrel and bedding that makes the most difference than the length of the barrel.

just make sure that if you are going for a super accurate savage make sure of one thing. you do not want the standard stock that comes with savages. get either the McMillan or the choate stock. I have a 110fp and the factory stock was so flimsey that it had an effect on how it shot. I even glass bedded the factory stock and it still didnt improve. it is worth the extra to get an upgraded stock than refit like I did. after you get it we will be wanting a range report and I am wondering how good them accue triggers shoot.

Amen on the factory tupperware stock! It's a flimsy piece of crap. Save the money for the McMillan. I didn't and I was sorry.

I ended up getting aTek2000. I'm extremely pleased with it, but it cost more than the McMillan.

The AccuTrigger is sweet, best stock trigger I have ever shot on any production rifle. I got the 10FP-LE2B with the McMillan stock. I don't remember the difference but it was cheaper to get the stock upgrade with the rifle than it was to buy the standard rifle and restock.
