I've had a couple versions of MK2's and they shot really well. Walmart has a MK2 F, plain Jane basic rifle for $156, but it doesn't appear to have the accu-trigger. They have the trigger lock on it and won't remove it unless It's buy the rifle, which I don't need but would buy just for a beater/loaner. Are they building these without accu-trigger? Walmart cheapie exclusive?

I say go for it. I have a regular MKII, stock trigger was 6 lbs. A polish and shims took it down to 4.5 lbs, and then I snipped the trigger spring and stretched it back to it's original length and now get 3.2 lbs of pull. There's a hair of creep but it's far better than stock. For a squirrel gun it shoots pretty good too. Mine doesn't care for any target ammo I've put through it, but it particularly likes Aguila Super Extra HP's HV and does OK with Mini Mags. I just looked at my logs, 4 groups of 5 shots each group it's averaging .45" at 50 yards with the Aguila. Most other brands are 3/4" to an inch.

I've tossed it around in my head. Whether it's accu-trigger or not isn't the big hold up really. More concerned if it's something regular they do, or something they did just to sell in Walmart. In which case, I'd be wondering what else they did to get to that price point.

I really don't need it though. I've got a MK2 heavy barrel that shoots pretty well for a $200 rifle, and I have a couple other rifles that are very capable in the squirrel woods, if I ever get back to going. Wish I knew if it has scope bases in the box or not....I'd almost buy it just to see how accurate a brand new $150 rifle could really be.

IIRC, I think Savage was doing non-accutrigger models for Walmart at one time, don't know if they still are. You can get trigger kits for them that aren't crazy expensive, so I'd go for it if you're interested in it.

My son has one from Walmart w/out the accu-trigger , and I have a few with accu-triggers that came from other sources like Lipseys , Zanders, Davidsons, etc . . I see no difference in them , and we have many rounds through them . I actually prefer the normal trigger over the accu-trigger bladed shoe solely for feel . If you plan on modifying the trigger you may find the lack of accu-trigger is a non-issue .

I have one, walmart special, no accutrigger, bought second hand because it had some issues with extraction. It was easy enough to fix, but that is a known issue.
Trigger is very good, but I have an accutrigger savage, and it is waaaayyyyy better. Still, the base trigger is very good.
That rifle shoots about 1" at 50 yards with Federal blue box that normally goes for 4c/round. I'm not the steadiest, and thats not the best ammunition.
I do think they are a great value. If you do need to hone the chamber, I can show you how I did.

I have a Walmart special I bought used 15 years ago. No AccuTrigger. Savage 93R17 that came with a Tasco 1.5-4x32 scope. If they cut any corners I haven't noticed. Still shoots fine if you clean it now and then.

Ok, that makes sense. I wonder if they cheapened it in any other areas, especially the barrel.

I doubt it, especially given the minimal price difference. In the centerfire lines the Axis shares the barrels of the 10/11 models, so I doubt they would try to find different barrels just for a Walmart exlcusive of the same model.

Really, it probably wouldn't make much sense for them to try to source cheaper barrels from an economic perspective since they're already producing them for the "regular" Mark II, and sourcing them would probably be more expensive than producing more of what they already are manufacturing in bulk while gearing up to produce different ones would mean buying more machinery.
