I recently picked up an older Savage Mark 2 in 22LR. It has a 21” heavy barrel and is in very good condition. It came with a Nikon P223 BDC scope. I’ve not even had a chance to shoot it yet, weather and work has kept me off the range.

For you guys that has shot these, are they pretty good as far as the trigger is concerned? Also, I know this scope is geared towards the .223 but do you guys have any experience with it on a 22LR?

Thanks!

I have one except mine is chambered in 17m2. I have no complaints about the trigger on mine. In fact, I really have to focus to tell the difference compared to my MkII with the accurate-trigger. I did buy the 17m2 rifle used so who knows if the previous owner did anything to the trigger.

There used to be a trick cutting shims from aluminum drink cans and adding 1 or 2 under one of the the screws that holds the trigger assembly to the action. I have a Pre-accutrigger MkII with the standard barrel /iron sights that I did the shim trick on about 13-14 years ago. It made a decent improvement on an ok trigger, and the gun has seen plenty of use since. You can google it or check on rimfirecentral for more info.

No experience with the scope, but never had an issue with Nikon.

I do have a plain Jane mkii pre accutrigger that I bought used for $80. Shoots good. I did the shim trick mentioned above, it does take the slack out. With some minimal smoothing here and there along with the shim it shoots well. It honestly wasnt terrible before that modification.

They're accurate rifles, even with the thinner sporter barrels. If I had any complaint it's that I don't like the position of the magazine.

I’ve got the scope on an AR 15, and it’s reliable and accurate for the caliber. There may be better choices for a .22, though, especially if you’re intending to use the BDC.

I also have a .22 lr AR style gun, the S&W 15-22, and use a 3.5-10 Bushnell AR-22 Drop Zone scope on that, and recommend it highly.

I have two Savage MKII's and a 93 and they all shoot way out of proportion to their modest price tag.

Centerfire scopes that are not parallax-adjustable are always going to have issues on a rimfire. Where a centerfire scope is usually set parallax-free at 100-150yds, rimfire scopes are set at 50-75yds. What I have found is that up to about 4x, they seem to work fine but get much above that and the issues can be serious. Luckily those that are 12-16x or higher on the top end usually also have adjustable objectives.
